help!! car cant shift please help!!

i was driving home this morning from my girls house when all of a sudden i shifted from 3rd gear to 4th, the knob just fell in to gear without any real force. i looked down in dis belief cause it was real smooth. so i sped up so i can feel what 5th gear was like and it did the same thing, but only the knob popped out of gear into neutral. I got nervous cause i was on the highway and didnt want to be stranded. i eventually had to come to a complete stop cause of rush hour traffic(oh shit!!). i thought i was done, the good thing is that 1 st gear still works and i was able to get home.

please help me !!: the car cant get into any other gears but first and it cant reverse. the last upgrade was a snub mount/ coilpack and my clutch only has about 3500 mile on it.

Maybe your slave cylinder? Mine just went, the other night.

Let a friend drive the car. He tried showing off and racing a sl500 and downshifted and nothing. Pedal went to floor. Had to match shift it to get it close to home. Turns out he blew out the cylinder and then destroyed the whole clutch. It was going, but he finished it off that night! And all he had to say was, "Sorry, i've been driving stick for 20 years and this never happened" Well a stage 2 southbend and $1,200 later i'm the one that is sorry.

thanx for your help. took it to a local mechanic as they put it on the lift a bolt fell on the floor. turns out that the bolt is attached to the shift rod that connects to the tranny. i need a washer to hold it in place but the mechnic did something to make sure it doesnt happen again. Yo all i can say is that my shift knob feels so much better. the shift knob feel real stiff and smooth. the driving experience is great!!
