There's a supercharged A4 in classifieds (just came on) for 7K. But you DO want to "deal with Turbos"! Otherwise 4.2.

how dependable is that 4.2 v8? and how hard is it to work on?

What's wrong with turbos? My B6 Passat wagon was a 2.0T. Never had any issues with the turbo. THe PCV valve needed replaicing, and the throttle boddy motor was replaced. Otherwise over 30K miles of faithful service. Also my B7 A4 was a turbo too. No problems there either.

back to the topic... yeh 2.8.. is a no no.. either you're an older person who just need a nice looking ride to get from A to B but wouldn't get a BMW cuz all the young punks are driving them. go with a 2.7t and deal with the turbos, go with a 4.2 and deal with.. ummm tranny i guess.. but i do love the wide body of the 4.2......

well im not looking for something to be fast, thats why i am getting my 03 cobra next summer.. i want a nice ride thats going to be reliable and automatic.. i currently have an 03 a4 3.0 6 spd that i have listed for sale, if someone buy it then i would like to step into an a6, prefferably 99-01 black on black or black on ameretto, awd automatic

another reason why i shy away from that 2.7t is because of the s4 stories i have heard about, always having to put money into em and all that.. idk if its different with the a6 but as far as the motor goes its the same thing

Bigmerle -- you getting the PMs?

G -- car you cited is far from good deal and 2.7 or 4.2 are head and shoulders above other engines. Water pump, timing belt are maintenance issues -- after that not so sure there is anything particularly extra in 2.7 (S4 guys nothwithstanding) -- still have issues like tie rods, cont'l arms, axle CV which are same for all engines. Audi parts prices can be silly and that is also true for all engines, no? Kids driving S4s as hard as possible as often as possible is what it is.

Based on Autotrader, looks like there are a number of turtles in the pond to choose from.
