Something about it just looks awkward. I would like a new shift knob for sure, cuz the shift-release button (whatever its called) on the stock tip. knob feels loose and cheesy, but I'd never wrap a boot around the bottom.

IF I ever did this, I'd remove any/all trim around the knob and shifter itself to get that sunken look that manuals have. It looks like the one in the pic is wrapped over the plate/trim that creates the track for the shifter, aka a "steaming pile of poo", lol.

And a x2, whoever owns the car in the pic needs a lesson in car care.

Hmm, slightly OT.. I wonder how that person got the track name of the artist and song to appear on their Symphony II.. I've been trying to get that info to pop up forever.. and yeah.. they need to clean their car more often..

^ Maybe its a radio station; I've seen both BMW's and Audi's pick up certain song artists/names when on certain stations, even on the most simple audio system config's. Also, might be a stock iPod hookup (I've heard it lets you see the artist/track name).

Yeah, I get it to work for Radio RDS all the time, but when it comes to getting a CD to display that information it doesn't work... sorry for not clarifying I was talking about CD info in my previous post...

Hmm.. im going through my Symphony II manual now and it shows a similar picture under Sat radio.. so I'm guessing in the op's pic they were listening to Sat radio...

if you're dissatisfied with your auto, don't be tempted to dress it up like a manual. dress it up like an auto with some nice OEM aluminum pedals, or spend your money and time on another type of mod. like an RS4 steering wheel, or a detailing session.

Not to thread jack, but my 2008 supports CD text. Surprised the hell out of me, as everything I've read here says that it doesn't. I put in the New linkin park CD and cd text popped up, same with a couple of other cd's that I've put in. If I burn a CD through iTunes and enable CD Text it works as well... So I am still not sure why track names don't show up for iPod.

i personally think the oem audi tip shifter/gate is one of the nicest looking ones on the market. i don't know why you'd want to cover it with a shift boot and place a 'manual looking' shift knob on top. that's sort of ricer.

I think the OEM Tip is pretty old school... with the side release button. If you are changing knobs... don't go with the one you showed us though.

My 07 will show song information with MP3 CD's, its all in how you burn them.
itunes does a good job (so long as the song info is there), media player not so much.

The older radios (w/o Bose for sure) don't display CD text from my experience.

I wanted to upgrade the shiftknob because my knob is wearing so poorly, the vinyl is coming off and it's starting to look ugly, but I always thought you needed one with that shift lock button.
