Then get rid of it and pick up one of these. A Coates Rotary Head! They put one on a ford 302 and the red line went from 5700 RPMs to 14,850RPMs!!!! It reduces the number of moving parts in the head by I think 80%.

IMO, it's one of the coolest things i've ever seen. Problem is, it will never see mainstream production due to the decreased oil usage and huge decrease in the amount of parts that need to be supplied to build the engine. The cost is is a big barrier too.

I like the concept; looks so simple so why hasn't it been made yet in production.

Also, that head looks like a solid piece of metal. Even this much solid aluminum will weight quite a bit.

I heard something a while ago about the patent being owned by one of the major car manufacturers or an oil company. They wanted to squash it. I need to research more.

A mechanic firend of mine gave me this a couple years ago and he called it one of the biggest tragedies in auto history because it's something nobody will ever know about. It would make car companies alot of money in sales, but it would cost other companies alot of money in lost sales. (parts, oil, etc)

Also, likely very expensive to produce in small quantities and quite a bit more expensive than valves in large quantities.

Balancing and timing for that also needs to be more precise than valves.

That being said, why it isn't used in sports cars is up to debate. However I don't believe in conspiracy since any auto manufacturer will use any advantage it can get to differentiate itself from the competition. (Look at the Mazda Rotary engines)
I own a budget Audi...VW. Anyone want to give donations?

i think if anything this could be competition for the hybrids. if we want more efficiency then i say improve internal combustion, dont stick batteries that are not disposable on internal combustion. (its obvious internal combustion is not going anywhere anytime soon)
this is awesome. i hope it gets off the ground
