Hey I searched the forum and found the kit number for the pump relocation has anyone done this for 2000 MT6? Daft had mentioned maybe the harness was different? Hope to get the kit and do it this weekend I will take pics when I do it.

I think the kit is an AUDI dealer only kit, isn't it?
if so call them and inquire about it.

Yeah it is dealer only. Just thought I would see if anyone has done it on a 2000 yet. I am going this weekend hopefully and get it and post a DIY.

Re: aux water pump for 2000 year

The kit was origninally meant for a 2002+ A6/S4/AR with the 2.7T.

My guess was that the pre-2002 cars had a different wiring harness and thus the included harness wouldn't match up.

I just took the time to compare the wiring schematics of the 2000 APB motor's after-run pump harness to the 2002+ harness and honestly, they are the same.

There are two wires. One is red w/yellow and one is brown. The fan control module sends 12V on the red/yellow lead to activate the pump and stops when it the coolant sensor shows enough reduction in water temp.

I honestly think you can use the after-run relocation kit on any 2.7T motor. Out of all the parts in the kit, the harness was the only part I could think of that would be changed on older cars. I guess it really isn't.

I also checked ETKA to see if the pumps are different between pre-2002 and 2002+. The part number is the same for all of the au-pumps so the harness would have to be the same too.

So in a nutshell, I really cannot see any reason that someone with a pre-2002 car can't use the Audi Aux-pump relocation kit.

No problem. I still have all the fixin's to make a write-up on this. I just never have the spare time to do so. I really need to do it though. You're not the only one who's asked this question before.

I am really interested to see what the outcome is with your APB motor. I have a sneaking suspision that the original TSB Audi wrote was to cover cars that were still under warranty and thus they only listed the 2002+ cars at that time. It would have been nicer if they just listed 2000-2001 in the TSB as applicable to avoid confusion....

Re: aux water pump for 2000 year

ok, after 4 1/2 hrs of working and figuring out, i finally mange to put in the aux pump relocation kit, got it from genuine audi/vw parts here in miramar san diego, they are really good to get parts, and lease expensive.

for all the 2000 audi a6 owners, i am giving you guys heads up if your planning to do this, you need to let them know that you got a 2000 coz the wiring harness got a different plug from the original one, i'm guessing the 2002 up model has it, there is really a very tiny room to work with, your gonna have to take off the pipe from the throttle body on the passenger side so you have some space.
our gonna need to cut or find some hose cause it does not line up, it is way off and you cant bend the preformed hose that comes with the kit, what i did is i cut the existing hose for the lower one thats pointing down, and the upper one you need a certain bend almost like an s but bends towards the hole. i'll take pics tomorrow. buy some clamps and replaced all the old clamps cause it's a bitch to put back on... lol..

Re: aux water pump for 2000 year

Where does the pump relocate to? What are the benefits/why do I want to do this mod? Would it be just as easy to buy the correct harness clip, some lengths of appropriate sized tubing, a couple of harness repair wires and put it wherever you wanted?
    I don't think I care anymore

Re: aux water pump for 2000 year

I replaced my 2001 AR pump a few weeks ago and the hoses were different from what I got as a standard aux pump hosing, I presume the standard is 2002+.

Now, the 2002 piping had different bends and most importantly DIFFERENT diameter hosing on the hose that bends down and connects to hard pipe. I hope you didn't just clamp larger hose on a much smaller hard pipe as you will no doubt develop leaks in no time...

Just heads up just in case it is what you did :)

Re: aux water pump for 2000 year

The "benefit" is that in 100k miles or some 8 years from now, when the pump develops a leak again, it will be in a much more convenient location to access. If the car is not junked by then, the next owner will be pleased...

well you can't really put it in different location, cause what they did is they put it closer to the lower coolant hose and the main water pump. so if you move it somwhere else then you're gonna have to get a longer hose..
and like daft mentioned and the other people that read about it, it was really made for cars under warranty back then , so ifyou got 2002+ then you dont have to modify anything, but if you have a minus 2002 then the wiring harness plug and hoses is different.
