WOW!!!!
I'm on quite a few forums. You guys take the cake! Thanks for the great feedback.
My son is in Guam flying B52's and he comes back in Oct. He sold his car(s) before he left. My wife and I were recently tasked with finding a clean A4 so he would have transportation when he gets home.
It didn't take long before I realized the A4 1.8TQ USP 6MT was a pretty nice car. My wife has a MINI S and she lets me drive it enough to know that a small turbocharged ( supercharged ) engine can be alot of fun. That being said, I also know what the maintenance bills can be like at the stealer.
First Lt's in the Air Force aren't the highest paid folks around. My son had a first generation Viper for awhile. The good--he really enjoyed wrenching on the car. The bad--$$$$$$$$$$. So, he came away from the Viper experience knowing what he needed. A fun, youthful car with descent performance and the potential for moding when mileage isn't such a top priority.
I passed on the limited knowledge I gained in my short time on the Audi forums. I also let him know of the great cars out there. EYE4SPEED has a great, low mileage A4 that I would have jumped at. Anyone reading this post that is looking for a very nice, lightly modded, low mileage A4 should check it out (

However, my son wanted an unmodded A4 and there's no way my wife was selling the MINI to open the door for my new/used Audi.
So, this is what I ended up with:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...=p4506.c0.m245
2005 1.8TQ 6MT Ultra Sport. Black on Black with just under 26,000 miles. The Carfax checked out, the dealer checked out, the VIN and Audi maintenance records checked out. The scheduled services were complied with at 5K, 15K, and 25K. The 25K oil change specifically states 0*40*SYN with a part # ZVP000540. The other 2 oil changes show a part # for the oil of ZVW352540S. I'm thinking I got dino the first couple of oil changes?? I'm not sure what the 2005 owners manual specified. The only recurring issue with the car was a window regulator. They must use the same supplier as MINI, as I've replaced 2 in our '04 S.
. The tires and wheels look good and the manuals and second key are there. The factory warranty runs out 11/12/08. My son gets back from Guam the first week of Oct. He'll have just over a month before his 4 year factory warranty runs out. My wife and I are buying an extended warranty from Warranty Direct ( I use them on our MINI and they have been great- another thread ) for an additional 5years/ 100,000 miles. Only problem will be that the new warranty requires 30 days/ 1000 miles before it takes effect. The car will have to be driven 1000 miles between Oct and Nov 12 to avoid any lapse in coverage.
This is a first for me buying a car off Ebay sight unseen. I would much rather buy from a Forum member and fellow car enthusiast. But, with limited time, this is what I came up with. Seems like I have a knack for doing things backasswards. But I'll ask anyway. Remember, I'm old. Go easy on me.
What do you think? Did I screw the pooch or do OK? Oh yea. $20,500.
Regards, Dave
