Does anyone know what the current billable hours are (Mitchell, or other) for RMS replacement on a B5 S4? Thanks!

yep, I think that's about right. I had to do this like a MONTH after I first bought the car, and it was like $2,300 or something rediculous like that (from the Dealer). I had it done anyways, all under warranty .

I would guess that is is 7-8 hours as the trans has to come out then the clutch too. Then you can remove the Main Seal.. I would say its really only a 4-6 hour jobs to do. Its pretty easy to do on these cars. Just time consuming due to the amount of stuff that has to be removed.

just the tranny. And make sure when you get the parts that they are for a manual trans! 2 dealerships ordered me the wrong seal and o-rings, because something with their system not being updated!

Re: Labor hours for rear main seal replacement?

The best deal on the seal is from VAST. From the dealer, approx. $130. If you are putting it on yourself, be sure of what you are doing--it is relatively simple if you are careful, and have the installation ring, which VAST supplies. When I bought from the dealer, they did not. If you do not get the seal 100% correctly placed, it will leak, and you will not know it until you've driven the car, which means that you have to remove the transmission yet again...
