Anybody have experience with Coilover Bags?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was surfing a came upon these, at UniversalAirSuspension.com They are called "Coilover Bag & Brackets, I think they just attached to existing coilovers, where they can adjust the spring rate on fly. I'm interested for the sole purpose of raising the car for speed bumps, driveways, etc. They look pretty plug & play, but I have no air suspension knowledge, so could someone chime in on this. Thanks.

Those are for trucks/4x4's. There isn't enough room to run something like that on our cars.

These are what I have in the front:

Yeah, I went through your Airride thread Capt. ,but I was trying to find something leaning towards more performance. Kinda like the Roberuta Skipper Kit, or at least something comparable to my H&R springs. I dunno, how is the performance compared to your Teins?

Re: Anybody have experience with Coilover Bags?

The performance is good. Somewhere between my Tein SS's and the stock sport suspension. If I wanted to, I could make the bags perform as well or better than my coilovers, but like anything else, it's a trade off: do I want to go stupid low, or do I want to handle well? I'd rather go stupid low.

Re: Anybody have experience with Coilover Bags?

Ahh, I see, well I guess, the Aero Sports might be the answer for me then. I'd would only want to do the front though and probaby keep the rear from whatever coilover kit I purchase. Would that have any adverse affects?

Re: Anybody have experience with Coilover Bags?

No, you can do that. The handling might be a little wonky though with the mis-matched spring rates front and rear.

Is there a write-up anywhere on the basics of air-bag suspensions? I'm pretty interested (not in doing it, just learning exactly how everything works).

there's a company that makes something like what you described in the OP -- i can't remember the name or anything (DOH! - i really liked them too) but a local guy with a turbo NSX was rocking some..

basically it's a metal piston (like our DV's) that replaces the upper spring perch and has an air line going to it.... when no air is in there it works like a normal perch. with air you can jack the car up to "service" or "speed bump" height (or winter mode depending on where you are)

his compressor is tiny and almost silent, as they don't need a ton of air - or to use that air very often.

Re: Anybody have experience with Coilover Bags?

Do all air bag systems have to be so damn loud when you drop the car? I work on the DUB tour as a contractor doing all of the audio for the concert and a majority of the cars there have bags. When they drop them is so annoyingly loud.

I have toyed with the idea of doing this down the road but not sure. Love the look of the car dropped. Have a friend with a Mercedes with hydros and its silent when dropping and no compressors.

Mine is very quiet. My valves vent into the trunk and have mufflers on them. You can hardly hear them unless the trunk is open or the rear seats are folded down.
