Looking at a black b5s4 sedan, manual tranny. One owner and was serviced religiously, But whats goin on with the turbos on these cars? I'm assuming it is not the same turbo used on my b6a4 but why are these things so unreliable? What do you avg. for gas and known common problems with these? After test driving my car and a b6 s4 ive decided the b5 seems much more exciting. Also wtf is the basic navi all about, how the hell does it work? Also has anyone replaced just the lcd screen on the dash because the one I'm looking at has mass dead pixels.

K03s go because they are usually run too hard, you run them out of their efficiency range quickly and chips like GIAC and new APR they take a toll on them. that OR they are poorly maintained... its not hard, but little things like not boosting until Coolant temps and oil temps are past 175, driving easy (out of boost) before turning it off and a 15-30 second idle can really help...

This is all true. Just treat the turbo's right, and you shouldn't have a problem. Also not beating on the car when you really don't need to plays a big role. If your just gassing it all the time/most of the time, you're going to run into problems.

I can get 20 mpg around town and then 24-26 on the highway. Its all about driving conservatively.
