The front is good, the rear may rub, definitely gunna be a little poke, I would roll the fenders. Also depends on what kinda tire you wanna run. Depend on the suspension also, sittin low?

With 18x9 your looking at a 235/35/18 tire setup. With that rear offset though you will have some problems as stated above. As for suspension, as long as you keep it decent you should be fine but if you want low then you will rubb a dub dub.

    well add a 20mm spacer to that 18x8 et35 and you'll see how a 18x9 et28 will, def poke a lil bit.

another question - is can i put the same size tires on these wheels - and how will offset play a part in handling -

i am going to run 225/40/18

Technically yes you can put the same size tires on, but, they are going to stretch differently.

The further the offset is from stock it will put more stress on your bearings and they may wear out faster.

If these are going on a B5 I think you will rub on the fenders in the front, at least going over bumps while turning.

Re: wheel fitment - will these fit - updated

the fronts will not rub really. Especially if he is not that low. I ran 18x8 with a 225/40 tire et27(spacers) and had no issues. Also i am 25" ground to fender at the time.

Like said above, running same size tires will give you a different look since one tire will be stretched and one won't be really. Better off matching the tire sizes to the rim/width. You probably wont notice much difference in handling. 225 on an 8" rim will be a very mild stretch, where 225 on the 9" will be pretty good amount of stretch, that is the maximum recommended rim width for a 225 (9").

Re: wheel fitment - will these fit - updated

reason i don't want to run different size tires - because the affect it would have on handling - bigger rear would create more understeer even though these will by my DD wheels - i don't want to put all the work into this car and reverse it

Well for someone who is worried about handling, that rear tire is going to be stretched pretty good.. running the same size tire on each rim will work, but your rolling diameters will still be slightly different due to one being much more stretched than the other.

wonder what tires i need in the back but i've read that stretching a tire does not affect rolling diameter

Re: wheel fitment - will these fit - updated Pictures now

i couldn't pass up on the deal for forged wheels

    18x8 and 18x9
Offset is 32mm front and 28mm rear

the wheels on the front right now are 215 and the back are 235

215 on the front here that is currently on

235 on the rear that is currently on

    the baby themselves

and i put them on the scale they weight at 40 lbs total with wheel and tire

so i want to put the same size tires on - what should i go with 215 all around or 225 all around

here are pics for scale and what is currently on them for reference

i am leading towards 225 all around

I'd go 245/35-18 all around. 225/40-18 is stock size and as narrow as I would go.

Depending on the make of the tire, and unless you've done something with your fenders, I honestly don't think a 245 is going to fit well in the front. Go widebody and then you won't have a problem.

Some of my favorite wheels....where'd u get em from? They look great man....but on the rear, definitely go with 225....I ran some wheels with similar widths and offsets last year. I ran 18x9 SSR GT3's with et 31 in the rear with a 235/40 tire and it rubbed pretty bad until the control arm shaved off the inner part of the tire.....so i think a slightly more narrow tire would work

Re: wheel fitment - will these fit - updated Pictures now

18x9 et31 puts the inside sidewall 9mm closer to the control arm. This would have been immediately apparent to whomever installed the wheel had they bothered to check clearances. My 245/40-17 on 17x8 et35 has more than 1/4 of rear inner clearance and more than that on the outside. It is partly the size tire and partly where you position it in the fenderwell.

I did the measurements a couple weeks ago. A 255/40-17 will fit without any rubbing front or rear. A 265/35-18 will fit up front but not in the rear. This assumes your front fender lips are rolled flat and the liner is trimmed back or molded.

I've been considering a 255/35-18 or even 265/35-18 for my next summer set. I've got a 275/40-17 from the Cobra and it definitely won't fit. I'd really like to run a 285/30-18 but they get expensive quick. Fitting the tire is cheaper than the tires...

That's what I would be afraid would happen. I've noticed that different people's cars can get away with different sizes and offsets for some reason that other people can't, I'm guessing it depends on their suspension setups. On my factory sport with only an 8" wide rim et 35 in the rear I'm barely clearing the arm. I even "polished" the arm a little with the factory 17x7.5" rims on but I am running a 235 tire instead of 225. Your best friend is a tire size calculator. Do the math and see what will still clear everywhere when you're placing the most load on a particular wheel.

Check this thread for various wheel and tire size calculators:

Wow! Have you got more room on the Avant? My 235's on 17x8" et 35 already stick out ever so slightly past my front fenders and rub if I bounce hard on a corner. Even rolled I'm sure I would rub a 255.

From what I've read "nobody" knows as much as he does.

But seriously, it is only 3mm difference, but a 9" wide rim adds 3/4" width to each side over the factory 7.5" rim so the offset needs to move in accordingly to keep the same relative inside position. Then on top of that the tire width may or may not stick out past the edge of the rim... and the "same size" tire from one manufacturer isn't really quite the same size as from another manufacturer. So either you do a lot of measuring or expensive trial and error.

235/40-17 is a much easier fit than a 235/45-17 due to the difference in height which is nearly an inch. I ran 235/40 for my track tires and 235/45 for streets (pilot sport).

The 235/45-17 Pilot Sports were tucking tread in the rear. I tried several different heights and this was probably the lowest. The front fenders were rolled.

235/40-17 track tire. Looks tight from the side but has a ton of clearance from the right angle. Could have run 5-10mm spacers all around with these tires. The shorter overall diameter and lack of tread really add to the clearance and make them fit like a 235/35-17 would. Other than clearance the other benefit is that it lowers the entire car 3/8" without affecting suspension or alignment.

These pics show just how important offset is. I could run 15mm spacers with my 225/50-16 Sumis on stock Swings and still not hit the fenders.

    245/40-17 inner rear clearance on a 17x8 et35 wheel.

225/50-16 inner rear clearance on stock 16" Swings.

The part that gets confusing is that the measurement is based off the center of the wheel. If the hub mating surface is dead center it is an et0 wheel regardless of it's width. An 8" wide wheel would have the hub 101mm(4") from the edge while a 6" wide wheel would only be 76mm(3").

If the distance between the hub flange and inner edge are fixed (inner control arm clearance) and the wheel was made wider it would just keep protruding farther out of the wheel well. The offset would grow from 8" et35 to 9" et22, 10" et10, 11" et-3, etc..
