    Re: Allroad questions

I don't have the allroad. From what I know the 4.2 that it has is the same chain driven 4.2 that the B6 S4 has. So it can be chipped to S4 power I'm told. I could be horrible misinformed and that would be nothing new. I saw a 04 Allroad 4.2 with 50K around here for $14,000. I thought about it for a bit, then decided to keep my A6 since I just did the TB.

Get a 4.2. Turbos on the 2.7T are expensive to replace.

    Re: Allroad questions

Get the 2.7t and mod it. I have a 2.7t 6mt and am very happy with it. As things need work, I just keep modding it more and more. Been chipped for about 50k and no problems. Still original turbos with 86,000. Got the straight pipe now and it sounds unreal. The early (pre 2003, I think) 2.7t is the same motor as the B5 S4 (ABP engine code) With stage 3 upgrades the allroad can pull 420hp. My advice is to buy a 2.7t 6mt (2001 or 2002) for super cheap and dump the loot you save into mods. Then leave everyone in the dust!

My 2.7t 6mt has been VERY reliable. And my car is a 2001. Preventative maintenance is the key. I try to stay ahead of the game. also, if concerned about the air bags going south, do coil over suspension. I hear some stories of problem after problem with the allroad, but I have not seen this first hand. I guess you either get a lemon or not. I got lucky!

I could do exhaust and I can add a supercharger. Why is it 2.7 owners just can't compare stock.Anybody who knows allroads know the 4.2 is more reliable.People who think you drive a V8 are ignorant.I have yet to hear a V6 sound like a V8.The last straight pipe V6 allroad I heard sounded like a Cummins diesel

Yes, there are a lot of ignorant people out there. I am always surprised when someone asks me if it is a V8. Sounds like a 6 to me.
As far as sounding like a Cummins Diesel, I do not know who's car you heard, but my car sounds nothing like a big truck. Much deeper and throaty sound. It is loud, but deep and no rattling like a big truck.

I agree, nothing sounds like 4.2 engine. I wold love to see one with biturbo or supercharger. It would be bad ass!
Found out why my car sounds deeper and better than that other horrible sounding allroad on you tube. He is running a stock 2.25" all the way back. No chance for the turbos to spool because not enough air. I have a 3" down pipe that tapers to 2.5" all the way back. more air=deeper sound.

Car sounds great! If it is a real video and not a fake video This allroad is a 3.0TDI. It is a diesel and not sold here in the USA. I think the video is a fake because I have never heard a diesel engine sound like that. But, you never know!

RS6 4.2L yes. They are solid.

A6 4.2 Supercharged is still not fully proven yet. The advertised HP/TQ numbers are nice but, we'll still have to wait and see what kind of power the kit owners end up with.

We can go on and on on this for days.

The point is that the 4.2L is a great motor. However, it isn't going to outrun a 2.7T car stock, chipped or otherwise.

You buy a 4.2L for 300 worry free HP and a sweet ride.

You buy a 2.7T for the chip-ability, the 6-speed manual and the potential of 450HP in the future.

yes, I'm well aware of the $28,000 MTM setup. I was talking about the ones from Autospeed and AWE Tuning. Both of which should be about $22,000 cheaper and thus more affordable for the average joe.

Since both units are from tuners other than MTM, it will be interesting to see how the differences in software play out and the final numbers of the owners who buy these kits.

It's funny how 2.7 owners pick and choose how their engine is better. You said 4.2 supercharged wasn't proven.I proved it has. Then you come up with well the cheaper ones aren't.Make up your mind.State your rules if you want a debate
