The domestic vehicle trash talking thread

I can't help but notice what smack is talked about domestic cars, it seems that it is either a "built like crap" comment or a "my interior is better" comment. When in all seriousness the domestics have the majority of big hitter cars in the 400+hp performance market. Here is a list I have made of domestic cars that some tend to overlook or just plain not care for. Discussion is welcome.

Models over the past 5 years with 400+hp: 31
Models over the past 5 years with 500+hp: 17

    Cadillac:

    2005 CTS-V: 400hp/395tq

    2009 CTS-V: 550hp/550tq

    2006 XLR-V: 443hp/414tq

    2009 STS-V: 469hp/439tq

    Chevrolet:

    2002-2004 Lingenfelter Corvette 427: 802hp/866tq

    2002-2004 Corvette zO6: 405hp/400tq

    2005 Corvette z51: 400hp/400tq

    2008 Corvette: 436hp/428tq

    2008 Corvette zO6: 505hp/470tq

    2008 Lingenfelter Corvette 427: 725hp/730tq

    2009 Corvette ZR1: 620hp/595tq

    2009 Camaro: 422hp/408tq

    Pontiac:

    2006 GTO: 400hp/395tq

    Chrysler:

    1996 Viper R/T 10: 400hp/465tq

    1999 Viper ACR: 460hp/500tq

    2000 Viper R/T 10 GTS: 450hp/490tq

    2003 Viper Hennessey Venom: 1050hp/1100tq

    2004 Viper SRT-10: 510hp/535tq

    2009 Viper Coupe: 600hp/560tq

    2006 Grand Cherokee SRT-8: 420hp/420tq

    2006 Hennessey SRT600 Grand Cherokee: 600hp/650tq

    2006 SRT-8 300c: 425hp/420tq

    2006 SRT-8 Charger: 425hp/420tq

    2006 SRT-8 Magnum: 425hp/420tq

    2009 SRT-8 Challenger: 425hp/420tq

    2009 Hennessey SRT600 Challenger: 620hp/650tq

    2005 SRT-10 Ram: 500hp/525tq

    2005 Hennessey Venom 800 Ram: 800hp/850tq

    Ford:

    2003 SVT Cobra: 390hp/390tq

    2007 Shelby GT500: 500hp/480tq

    2008 Shelby GT500KR: 540hp/510tq

    2008 Shelby GT500 Super Snake: 725hp

    2006 Ford GT: 550hp/500tq

    2006 Henfer T GT: 800hp

I think that is a pretty mean resume. All these cars are known the be very strong, reliable and fast.

    Completely agreed...

No matter what the haters say, I'll be in love with Chevy's until the day I die. As soon as they are available, the Infiniti is gonna take a hike and the new Camaro will take her place.

Re: The domestic vehicle trash talking thread

It isn't so much smack talk. But clearly any car you have listed there is drastically different then the Audi line up. If we were looking for just pure raw power / track car, I'm sure those would be some competitive candidates at a great price. However, majority of us here have families, or require some sort of refinement in our daily drivers. There are only a handful of cars up there that would probably be daily cars...

So in simple terms, there is not many direct competitors coming from the domestic market that caters to what most Audi drivers are looking for. And the ones that are competitors, either doesn't have the appeal, performance, modding potential? etc etc...

Hopefully that helps. Btw no disrespect to domestic cars. I think they have made a pretty strong come back from where they were in terms of quality and performance.

Its apples and oranges. I hate to tell you, but on an Audi forum... you'll more than likely find the majority a bit biased towards german cars.

Now what you also have to take into consideration is that some of the models, like Ford GT I believe it was, actually have a lot of parts from Europe and Japan.

But in truth it's no different than how some Americans won't buy any kind of imports... It's just up to taste, whether it's engine size or something else. I for one will probably never buy a domestic, but I recognize good cars.

For example, some Cadillacs, Chevy's and Ford's have been catching my eye lately and I think some of them are good cars, but I have no intentions of ever buying one.

The problem with American cars aside from a Ford GT, or Z06, is that they handle like boats, the interior is designed for someone 2x your width and the seats are awful, and the dash and almost all interior components look like theyre still being carried over from the mid 90s. Nothing is streamlined and even current looking as far as all that goes. No American car interior can hold a candle to the S5 interior.... or any audi interior for that matter.

have you ever sat in a gto? i am actually impressed with them.
the gto closely mirrors the z06 interior. much more comfy than my a4 interior IMO.

Never sat in a GTO. But you know that car is basically a Vauxhall Monaro. I've driven Z06s though and although the seats are supportive, yes... I still wasnt impressed with the interior at all. But, then again.. people dont buy Z06s for the interior. I guess its all relative. It comes down to what people like... so as long as they like what they have, and I like what I have.. who cares?

You hit a good point. Like how Saturn uses Opel models here in the states. 2010 Saturn Aura is actually Opel Insignia.

And yeah as far as interior goes, European cars by far have the best interior IMO. The corvettes interior doesn't impress me nor do others.

Actually the first gen of the CTS-V actually out did the Audi S4 on the top gear track with ease. There is not one single car on that list that could not beat or at least be extremely close to the S4 on a road course. Now if we open up the course into something with more long straights it would be an even greater margin of loss for the S. Every car on that list including the SRT-8 Grand Cherokee can hold its own very well in far more than just straights. The SRT-10 ram has performance as expected for a 5,000lb truck but there is no production truck faster in the world and then the GTO which handles like crap.

I could care less about some comparison tests... It's all about the love of the car for me cause at the end of the day, I'd rather drive an Audi. The s4 can hold it's own against a lot of cars. Oh and just wait till the b8 s4 comes out.

No one asked that man. This isn't a which car would you rather own thread. This is a people are ignorant to talk so much smack about domestic vehicles when they are more than what is perceived (crappy interiors)

I think it is, because you brought up the comparison tests. In which case I was just stating my opinion.

I wish Cadillac would make an off-shoot brand instead of calling their sport version simply "V".

I'm not driving a Cadillac. I don't care if it's free and the gas is free...I just don't want to drive a Cadillac. My grandfather drives a Caddy. My Dad drives a Caddy...even Jason1st drives a Caddy. ;)

    I'll drive an Allard though.

nO srt-4 or chevy cobalt mentioned? Those are easy under 3k pound cars to get into a reliable 400+ WHP for cheap.
THe Caddy in 6spd stick the 400hp one is a blast 2 drive and its interior is better then any Audi IMHO, carries 4 full size adults comfortably and handles well. Very sleeper 2.

Yeah but this is a thread based around cars you can buy with zero miles and or stock... If you wanted to get into the potential of these cars it would be crazy. Didn't wanna go there.

american cars have gotten better, but every schmuck has a corvette or a gto. they all think their shit don't stink because they have a big block 7+ liter motor that only mkaes 4-500 horsepower. i'm not saying audis are the greatest 4 doors out there, because they're dfinitely not, but it's the prestige and rarity of the S, combined with the sleeper potential (not so much anymore with the FMIC) that draws me to it time and again. I was thinking about trading it in for an srt4 w/ 400whp, but i thought to myself, why would i want shitty fwd and no launching ability? Why would i want a dodge neon in place of a really nice german car? give me german anyday over american.

Hate to say it, but a lot of those cars you posted share the same engine. That's like me posting the MTM RS4, MTM S/C RS4, MTM RS6, B&B RS6, ABT RS6 etc.

It's also not just about HP/TQ. Things like a fully independent suspension would be nice on a car with 500 HP (GT500 for example).

Of course these cars are fast and often reliable (questionable with some of those cars) but it's more of a "whole package" comparison that makes me lose respect for many American cars. It's like they say "ok, what do people want? HP & TQ...ok give them what they want and then slap the rest of it together with the cheapest possible parts."

With all of that said, I still like some of the cars you posted but I will probably never buy one.

For sheer power, American Muscle, though I would rather much get a classic.
The only thing is that I, nor the majority of people on this forum, got their Audis for pure speed. I bought my S4 because it is a 4 door sedan, has space, has a manual gearbox, and is absolutely beautiful inside. American cars are great but they are just...well...too American. American Manufacturers cut way too many corners.

Overall package, out of those manufacture's, Cadillac blows them all away. I'm a cert. tech for a GM dealership here that has Hummer, Chevrolet, and Cadillac, and out of all the Z06's, Vette's, whatever GM car it may be, the Cadillac V-Series outclasses them in everything. Granted the price is pretty steep, but i mean just look at them. Our owner, who happens to own the Porsche, Audi, Toyota store across from us as well, drives a Cadillac STS-V everyday and the man is in his late 40s. In the end it's all personal preference. I, myself, will work on an american car anyday, but in the end, i like the fact i drive a properly built German car home every evening not worrying about it taking a shit on me. On the other hand, my dad drives a 07 XLR-V, and good lord that is one hell of a beast. If i were to go back american, i would get a 07 CTS-V. 6 speed gearbox, suede interior, and a Corvette LS2/LS6(can't remember on the top of my mind) motor that packs a punch. Only thing i stress the most about Cadillac, is their lack of updates when it comes to radio/navigation radio. Its semi-old, hasn't changed in years. I was just in a 09 XLR-V yesterday, and the only thing different about that thing than my dad's was the fact the woodgrain came in different colors. So, really, its all about prefrence.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but didnt the first gen CTS-V have ~400bhp? Vs. The S4 at 340bhp I'd say the CTS must handle like a boat if it just nudged out the S4 by a little. Aside from that, 1 performance aspect out of the many doesnt mean a whole lot.

Americans have improved vastly but have not caught up to Europeans. When you have companies losing billions in a quarter the customer suffers.I looked at a new Vette. The fit finish and materials where very lacking compared to my allraod and they are in the same price range.Sure the can make huge hp but how?Instead of doing it efficiently the just keep stuffing a big motor in it.Americans aren't living up to there potential

I have owned several American cars in the past, and yes the interiors/exteriors have gotten slightly better and refined. What I have found is it's quality that is really lacking, for example after 3-4 years the interiors would look shit kicked. I would like to show you my Audi's interior after 7 years

    I rest my case.
AWE, GIAC, Stasis,KO4s, bla bla bla this is getting a bit ridiculous. I hope it will end soon.

Don't think he needs anything more. That's better looking than any American interior IMO.

My point is, that is all you have. As in

"even though my car is outperformed in braking, straight line acceleration, road course performance anddd for half the price I still win because my interior is better"

90% of the time the performance numbers you read on paper dosen't mean squat.

O.K. I see what your talking about, but I don't think you fully understand my point. After owning a car for awhile if the interior starts looking like shit I sell it... simple. All the american cars I owned (5 of them) did not hold up well. If I wanted a really fast 2 seater and was not concerned with the interior ( materials used, quality of workmanship, fit and finish, design ) I would probably have a Corvette right now, I mean I did go through 3 of them already. Results of that experience was to buy an Audi with a relatively high quality and nicely designed interior. Since the interior has held up, guess what?, I never sold the car and sank some money into it, to the point where I would hold my own with most of those cars at the track, I should know, I go a couple times a year. So with my 7 year old 4 wheel drive, 4 door car, with great interior I go to the track, throw some race gas in her and rip it up 500 hp 550 tq ,.... Oh, and braking and cornering have also been addressed. btw GT40 is my favorite American muscle car, however again after being in one I would rather take a lower HP Audi R8 with nicer "interior" Please don"t hate on me because I have good taste.

Re: The domestic vehicle trash talking thread

the only reason why many people don't like them is because they are so god damn heavy!

I mean, look at the perfomance of a Camaro with a LT1
then look at a perfomance of Mazda RX-7 FC swapped with that same engine

    difference is amazing

sure, these cars put out in drag's, and are easy to mod; but you try to take it out on a rainy day, or drive it in winter, or :oh noes: AUTOCROSS one! it takes LOTS of skill to keep it in control!

I have to say though, that if you can learn to do it, you will pretty much own the track
