Fuel gauge does not read full

So I put in 59 litres twice now and they gauge never reads full. I'm pretty sure the car can noly take 66 litres. Granted that I could try and pt in so much until it overflows out and on the side of the car or it could be that the gauge is so accurate that it knows that it is not actually full and it in fact is 7 litres short. I am just used to seeing the gauge being passed the "F" in other cars so maybe this is normal for the S4?

I had this a few months ago.

It's easily sorted with VAG-COM. When you get home with a full tank of fuel, plug in VAG-COM and connect to the instruments then run the fuel gauge calibration shown here http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/...8ED/8HE)(write 65535 into adaptation channel 33).

Re: Fuel gauge does not read full

That'd be a nice fix with the vag if it worked. I'm gonna try that. I bought the car and mine wouldn't tell me when it was empty. The dealer I bought it from said they'd "fix it for free", and when I got it back it wouldn't real full but it'd tell me when it was empty... then randomly it decided to go back to telling me when it was full and when it wasn't empty. It's annoying but I just fill up every 200 miles. I thought it was something else, the fuel sender? Or something like that.

Re: Fuel gauge does not read full

I don't really think there is anything wrong, the gauge doesn't stop at 3/4 but it doesn't really go all the way to 1/1 either...well I haven't put enough fuel into the tank for the gauge to read 1/1.

All of the other cars I have owned have always had the gauge actually read passed full, which isn't accurate either but since the needle doesn't actually seem to reach the 1/1, I am just thinking that I haven't put enough fuel in to make the needle go far enough or the gauge is really accurate. Then again I put in 59/66 litres into my car twice and unless the my tank is really empty, as in it has less then 7 litres or 1.5 gallons left, which is about 50km or 30 miles left in the tank, I would think the gauge should read 1/1.

I will try putting in even more fuel next time I fill up, I just need a quick trigger finger so I don't get too much gas on the side of my car :P

Mine never "passes" the full mark. It just stays there longer when I have topped off the tank to the brim (once for 80 miles).
