wheel and fender are way too close....WTF?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
heres the problem. in the first pic that is my front right wheel. notice how close the tires is to the front part f the fender/front bumper. the second pic is of my front left wheel. looks more normal. i need some help with why the wheel is so close to the bumper. there seems to be no rubbing of any kind, and the car doesnt seem to drive abnormally. also another problem i have noticed, the right side of my car sits noticeably lower than the left side. Note: i have H&R springs on stock shocks. car has 115k miles. any help would be great.

lol dude...you bent a control arm. probably the forward lower. get an alignment check on that, your caster readings are fucked. bring it to a shop or someone who can take a look at it.

    you dont remember hitting anything?

EDIT: forward lower would make even more sense if it sits lower because thats where the strut attaches itself. so if it is bent you might have bent a strut too affecting the height. or popped a spring.

our cars dont have a frame, we have a subframe. but even that its designed to bend the attachment points before it bends the subframe. thats why most control arms are made from aluminum and not steel.

Ok this has only happened recently, i have been in no accidents. my theory is that the shocks are gone, or possibly a control arm, but everythinng under there feels pretty solid. i plan on getting some adjustable coilovers soon and see what that possibly fixes.

if ur suspension was bad it would be lowered not off to the side, its your control arm like burnall4s4 said. ive had issues with my mustang due to control arms goin bad and it looked like that pic lift the car or being it to a shop and find out exactly what, dont go ahead do suspension and find out you still have the issue

Re: wheel and fender are way too close....WTF?

A blown shock/strut can make that corner a little bit lower...but you usually cant tell by looking at it. Im going with everyone else, it looks like a bent lca...probably the front one like burnall said. Theyre known for bending with very little force(compared to steel lca's). I believe it was ABT who kept bending them on their race cars from high g cornering.

Next time you drive it for a little bit, reach under your car and touch the strut. If its hot to the touch then its definitely blown. I dont think thats causing your wheel to offset itsself, but if it is blown it should be replaced anyway. Good luck man!

well what would be the problem causing the suspension to be low on the whole right side? That can't be control arms could it?

well your suspension could be bad from it being on stock shocks, but your control arms need to be checked as well since its off to the side, the suspension wont do that besides drop lower. so if your doing your suspension soon check out the control arms

Picture #1 looks like the bumper is not sitting flush, looks like a 3/4" gap.

Picture #2 looks normal, maybe a 1/4" gap. Have you taken your bumper off recently? Looks to me like it needs to be realigned, give that a try.

I notice your pictures are on grass.

Get on flat level pavement with the steering wheel straight

Check your tires for odd wear

look at distances of forward to rear and left and right gaps

If it's really off I'd say control arms if it's just a little low I'd say a blown strut
