am i chipped?

so i'm in a new b7 and i see he blacket out his headlight(but left the amber coner lens on) and took the seatbelt chime off... so i thought why not see if he is chipped...

plugged in my giac flashloader and .... nothing

remembered from having apr on my jetta.... turned the key on and held down the cruise button. then i see... repeated one flash... then two! this is only if you have it chipped right? it won't flash like that if stock? if that's the case... what for the 93 file... one flash or two?

i didn't really drive it too hard today prior to this revelation as i don't want and more blemishes on my driving record. need to keep my ins and not have to deal with it goin up too much. so when i took her out for a spin just now.. it felt a bit faster.. but not night and day like my b6 was from stock to chipped mode. does it need time to adjust?

i think i just saved myself a few hundred bucks!

with the ignition on, press the read button on the flashloader...you should see it flash any programs that are loaded. then it'll settle on the one it's currently using.

uhhh it just flashes in order i believe, I have 2 programs on my APR (stock and 93). When I put on cruise and hold it then it flashes once per second which be my first program (stock) and after 5 secs later then it would flash twice per sec which would be my second problem (93)

I have Stock, 93, and 100....in that order.

1 flash - Stock
2 flashes - 93
3 flashes - 100

I would also have Valet, but was told by APR that they don't have Valet Mode for the B7's yet. So I'd say it's a safe bet that your 2nd flash is either 91 or 93. I believe they always put Stock on the 1st flash.

Sounds like you have APR. But I'm sorry, I don't think there is a way to tell what you have because it only flashes "1, 2, 3" in the order of the programs the person chose.

I would recommend getting a boost gauge to see if the first program is stock/valet. If not, your two programs are most likely 91 and 93 or 93 and 100... something like that

No no, I'm pretty sure you're chipped with APR.

I'm just saying that specific programs don't blink a specific number of times, it just goes in order for what you bought (1 blink, 2 blinks) so you won't know what the programs are for sure.

For example, I have 93 and 100 octane programs (1 blink for 93, 2 blinks for 100). But had I bought stock and 93 octane programs, stock would be 1 blink and 93 would be 2 blinks.

No the flashing implies that you have a chip, there's just no way to tell what programs the previous owner had loaded on there. With APR you can choose anywhere between 1 & 4 different programs (stock, 91, 93, & 100), and have them loaded in whatever order you choose. You'll have to visit your nearest APR dealer to be sure what you have on there...

I would assume it would run pretty lean because it would be expecting high octane gas, and would most likely be trying to throw a lot more air into the mix to balance it out... I have no clue what that would do as far as what you could feel though.

1 blink is ok. some good power.. roughly the same as my stage 1+ on my b6
2 blink feels the same.. if i had to choose a difference maybe slower
3 blinks... my engine wouldn't turn over

and i don't hear the whistle that my turbo made in my b6 in boost.

Why not call apr? They should have the information on their database. I would think that your vin number would be enough to let you know if it's chipped and with what program(s).

ahh can i do that? didn't know. the only apr dealer by my house is chris green and i hear he charges 150 for fault codes and to clear cels... not wanting to do that. i'll call monday.. damm i mean tuesday.

One of the options for APR is a security lockout (probably what you have on "3 blinks" which would prevent the car from starting). A chipped 2.0T (without any other supporting mods) sould be at least as fast if not faster than a KO4'd 1.8T... Something's not right if you can't tell.

Could also be something as simple as a torn DV keeping you from holding boost...

Yeah, I can hear my turbo really well, but I also have a Carbonio intake which makes it probably 3 times as loud as stock. You should definately be able to hear it though, intake or not. Hmmm

yeah, u're right.. something must be wrong.. i didn't have any intake on my b6 and i heard it spool... i had a carbonio on my jetta and itdid more to make that pshhhhhh sound after you let off the gas than make me hear my turbo more. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Definitely give APR directly a call with your VIN. With APR you do have the ability to specify which "slot" you want each of your programs. The default for most folks and distributors is usually in order of performance such as "1=stock, 2=93 octane, 3=100 octane) but this is totally up to the customer and the distributor so you never know what they did. It is technically possible for the #1 slot to be the 100 octane slot and the #3 slot to be stock mode for example. They should have a record of each car so i'm sure you'll get it straight. Congrats on having a nice little free 500 to 900 dollars worth of mods. You will DEFINITELY feel the difference once you're in the chipped mode and running a quality fuel. It's not a small gain.

You also have to give the program you set a little time to adjust. 3 is obviously anti-theft

i hear the turbo spooling now.. but it's no where near as high pitched as it was on my b6. is that normal with these turbos?

one thing to note tho, although APR doesn't charge for the updates, tuner may charge you a fee to do the re-flash, especially if you didn't purchase the chip through them in the first place.


You will need to make some friends or try your luck with that one.

Not if you visit Euro Auto Tuning here in Miami only APR dealer I have seen who does not charge his customers for updates/upgrades.

Since you didn't buy the chip from him though do give him a call. Just explain your situation.

definitely get it checked out by an APR distributor, only they can read the code on there, they have pretty good security on that so its generally undetectable..

also, theres no way to tell which map is on which blink, because when you buy the chip you can set it yourself, so whatever 3 maps he bought he put in whatever order..

apr says i need to go to an auth dealer and pay $150 to do a warranty transfer before they can tell me whats on the chip. guess i'll wait to get my testpipe on n if there's a cel then i'll go.. otherwise, screw it
