On my old A4 the southbend I had had no break in required. Is this the same for the S4 stg 3?

Re: Southbend stg 3, no break in period?

i broke my vast stage 3 in a tank of gas. i got a lwfw, no chatter after everything was bedded properly. Damn, stage 3 is fun. I would just baby the clutch for a few hundred miles, then make a few harder runs. Just dont start off banging gears right away.

Just make sure whoever installs it does a good job and make sure everything is aligned and torqued down correctly.

Im puzzled how there's no break in on a clutch....

I had a Southebend Stage 3 on my A4 too and Andy told me the typical 500 miles of break-in. Same as any other clutch.

If it were my car, I'd do the 500 miles of city driving with low revs and gradual engagement.

Absolutely, 300 miles minimum. Any clutch friction material that is to be mated with a metal compound at that high of temperatures certainly needs breaking in.

I broke my sb stage 3 clutch in for about 500 miles. Now I can dump it at 5,000 RPMs trouble free :).

the most important thing is that you don't cane it at any point during the break in of a clutch, ask me how i know.

You should be on this game show, I think it's called ''Oblivious'' for that one,

It seem clear to me that he means to point out that people shouldn't fcuking street race during that initial period.

Perhaps he did and love and puppies came out of his clutch.

Re: Southbend stg 3, no break in period?

Lets see...spending $60 on a tank of gas and driving around lightly for a day or so.

    OR

Spending another $700 + labor, because you were impatient.

It is not like it takes a year to break in a clutch. Even if you don't think it needs to be broken in, take a day or two to drive around town with it.

It's not a matter of me being impatient, I was just asking if there was no break in required because on my old southbend there wasn't. thats all.

i just think the old adage 'better safe than sorry' is applicable to anything worth over $500 in parts and $800 in labor.

I had planned on taking it easy, its just that I'm worried if I forget about the clutch break in and trounce on it if I'll do damge.

P.S. how is one tank of gas 500 miles??? I wish! Im lucky to get 500 kms.
