    Question "Dipped" headlight

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so the misses was leaving for work this morning and when she got in the car and turned the lights on it came up on the dash saying "dipped" headlight. And the light was out. Now my questions are.... is the light being out set off the "dipped" headlight warning? What is a "dipped headlight" ?
    Are they connected at all?
When i get the car infront of me tonight what should i look for? Any advice on this would greatly be appreciated!!!!

    thanks

OK... so that is all it means? I was worried about possible auto leveling bullspit and stuff like that.... I was thinking something more mechanical, but that is good to know just swap out the bulb and hopefully that will do it.

    thanks for the quick response!

    Re: "Dipped" headlight

Theres a dip beam and a high beam, so the "dipped" doesnt actually imply that is burnt out, but that its your dip beam that is out

Just a little clarification for anyone that might be interested

Is this the symbol with the light with three slanted lines coming off it? I thought that meant there was a fault in the headlight system.

Sometimes the connector under the bulb comes loose when you hit a bump; rare but it happens.

    Re: "Dipped" headlight

Yup if its not the bulb itself then it will be that there is no electrical connection to the bulb so you'll have to tighten the little connector thingy. I guess try that first and if thats not it then its probly the bulb.

    Re: "Dipped" headlight

I had the same thing happen. I just bought my A4 and haven't messed with anything really. There was a storm here (along with the rest of the east coast) and water got into the passenger headlight and blew one of the xenons. People said they would be expensive, but jesus. Dealer wanted 236.00 for one bulb +50.00 for labor. Nearly 300.00 to replace one bulb... If you have xenons, the part number is D1S. You can get 2 on ebay or other internet stores for 100.00. Mine should be coming tomorrow or monday.

Also, dealer told me that it could be the igniter that is out, not the bulb. Igniter runs about 400.00.

"Dipped" = Low Beam headlight, and is the "English" term for "Low Beam".

The context is that the "High Beam" is the Normal or Main headlight, and is the mode used most of the time, as a historical perspective.
