03 b6 Quattro Wierd Turn-Off Noises and "Check" button Coolant/Oil problems?

Hi All,

Im a new member, regular reader looking for some help -

My 03 B6 Quattro is doing two wierd things, and before alerting the dealer would like some help / examples of this happening to others if possible.

The first is after the car has been turned off, there is what i think to be excessive 'metal tapping' noises.. It sounds like it goes through the entire exhuast, and can be quite noisey once turning the car off - not to mention how long these noises can sometimes to continue to go on for.

Could this be a leak in the exhaust system somewhere?

The Second is i have perfect temperate on my gauges and i have checked coolant and oil levels on the car, occasionally, when i press the check button, it will give me a COOLANT warning, and then a OIL warning.

As this doesnt constantly happen, and i never get a warning from the car itself unless i press the check button, is this a major concern or do you think its a computer glitch?

Any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated.

Read the manual. Check is just checking... I believe aslong as the oil and coolant warning lights don't stay on then you are fine.

If ithey are flashing and beeping at you, pull over check everything out (oil level and coolant), if somethings wrong, call the tow truck.

The metal tapping sound is heard after you run the car for a long time or hard and then shut her off correct. It sounds like random "tick tick ticks" , if so that is just your hot exhaust cooling down. If you let the car idle for a few minutes after running hard this will be less noticible.

with a euro car, realize the sensors go bad more than anything else, so when the dash lights up its more likely a bad sensor than a major problem. just be sure to check it out when it happens to be sure.
