Besides the standard Giac killswitch, does anyone know of any worthwhile products to keep the car safe? Wheel locks, other alarms, etc?
the neighborhood I live in is getting progressively more and more shady, so I'm trying to increase vehicle security.

    thanks in advance

I heard wheel locks just add couple minutes more of trouble to the thieves, but nothing that would stop them. In security, its a layered approach that works best, one layer of security after another. Its the combination of many precautions and security measures that would help the most, never one single solution. So decide how much security and $$ you want to put into your car and start from there..

I would be interested to hear what other members are using and recommend as well for their car's security.

use a clutch lock, then use a steering wheel lock....and if you happen to be in a really bad area just pull 2 of your coil packs :)

LoJack claims to have a 90% recovery rate, although that's after the fact.

    Re: Car Security?

yeah we use Lojack to recover cars that have it installed all the time. But honestly, I did not know that our cars get stolen very much, if at all. Break-ins on the other hand.....

I recently moved back into an apartment and I will be installing one of these. I had one on my old car.

    Re: Car Security?

What ive heard is if any thief really wants to steal your car or anything on it they will do whatever is necessary and alarms or other security items will only be a minor setback for them. They can even tow your car if they wanted it.

the only way to solve the problem....

    Re: Car Security?

Since all B6 chassis cars have the Immobiliser 3 systems, it's impossible to steal the car by "hot wiring" the car. One would have to put the car on a tow truck and physically haul it away. If someone was to pick up and steal the car, they would still have to proove ownership and identity to get a key ordered and precut by VIN and then do the same to have it "programed" to the car.

So don't worry about that and as far as break-in and such, your best bet is not leaving anything in the car that thiefs would like better than you. If you don't give em a reason to break in, they generally don't.

    +1

all the security in the world can't stop a flatbed, or a repo truck with an auto-picker...those guys don't even have to get out of the truck to tow your car away.
