    modding on a lease??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i recently leased a 2.0t and was wondering if it would be a good idea to chip the car or do any other mods...(hopefully buying the car at the end of the lease but too early to tell) i would greatly appreciate any insight!

    Re: modding on a lease??

many people do it, chip is something that is a must! If you chip, you have the option to "revert" back to stock when going to the dealer for service if they are not mod friendly.

Typically, most dealers will not care about a chip, intake and exhaust... You can do exterior mods: body kit, wheels, etc and that will not affect warranty. Lastly, if you do lower your car, it will only void your suspension components, not your whole car!

    good luck modding

I would Maybe do an Intake and Software upgrade. Anything else is going to be like skating on thin Ice. Where in New York do u live because I could tell you what dealers to stay away from if you want to mod.

You part out the car at the end of the lease and sell everything before the lease is up. Try and keep most of your OEM parts.

    Re: modding on a lease??

my car is leased and is fairly modded. I'll just put it back to stock before turning it in like I have on the last 2 cars. It is registered as a modified car in Audi's SAGA system ( all cars that show up at franchise service facilities with mods are listed as such) but as long as it is in good shape when I return it, the dealer says they don't care.

Go for it and enjoy your car.

    Re: modding on a lease??

I've had two leases with Audi and have done wheels and suspension. When turning the cars back in I put the stock parts back on to avoid issue with AF USA so keep what you take off and be prepared to put the parts back on unless you buy the car at the end of its lease. I just purchased a 2006 Avant S-line and now that I own the car rather than leasing, it's go time for the modifications ....

Alec - give it hell man. Do whatever you want but keep in mind if you do not buy it at the end all has to come off. But like many say most places are mod friendly so you should not have too many problems. If anyone else has some more insight please post.

    Re: modding on a lease??

You don't need to buy your car. You don't need to return your car. You can always sell your car. YES you can sell your car to a third party at buy-out price if the lease company allows it. This is something lease companies allow to alleviate the double taxation on selling your leased car to 3rd parties. I however am NOT sure what the audi finance groups take is on this. Usually most lease companies allow this.

Technically you are still buying the car, but you're simply giving the title away to the third party. The third party can even be the person sending the final payment/buy out to the lease company. Then third party registers the car under their name and pays the sales tax. In some cases, like mine, the title was sent directly to the third party after the sale from my lease company.

Just do some quick research... get the green light on the 3rd party sale, then mod the fuck out of your car, sell the stock parts.... just be ready to sell your car if you don't want it at the end of the lease. It's not that difficult, but will take some studying before your lease is up.

    Re: modding on a lease??

Look at my sig... I'm on a 36 month lease. Got the car on a Thursday night; it was being chipped the very next morning! Everything else was installed within the following month. When the time comes, either we'll buy it out or I'll revert everything to stock and hand in the keys. Keep ALL your stock parts!!! The way I baby my cars, I think I'll even have a waiting list of people I know who want to buy it from me.

Just treat it nice, rigorous maintenance (oil changes!!) and it should be good, which ever way you choose to go. Enjoy your new car!

What is the best way to take the chip off for turning in your car? Is there a hard reset that will remove it?

    Re: modding on a lease??

Keep in mind that very few people have had to deal with a blown engine or tranny repair here who claim most dealers are mod friendly. A dealership may still fix random bugs that most people have here or still service your car but do not at all be surprised of they deny an engine or tranny repair. These same dealerships that let you know they are "cool" can sometimes really just be getting disclose on mods from you or simply dont want the hassle of dealing with regional reps who will have to ok any large ticket warranty repairs. If truly concerned about warranty I would simply get a chip with a stock mode. Any other items I would return back to stock in the event of a catastrophic failure. Just my .02 from seeing many engine and tranny refusals from AoA and having even seen one personally on one of my cars.

    cheers! Mike

Sure. As long as anything you do can never relate to a drivetrain item or service item you are fine. To give you a crazy example, I am friends with people from a certain service department and they told me they actually refused all service and repair items on an Audi that had ONLY been lowered. Their reasoning was that the car was lowered below Audi specs and therefore they could not take responsibility for any damages done by their hoists that were only designed for OEM Audi ride heights. Sounded crazey to me but they were clear that the car would never go up on any of their hoists as they wanted no responsiblity for it. All the car had was very low lowering springs. It happens, and funny enough I dont see how you could fight that one either. I guess i learned from that just to be aware that everything can be "cool" with your dealership right up to the point they have to convince Audi to pay for a 5K dollar or more repair. Then things can change so just cover yourself if you ever have such a failure. I personally would put the car back to stock and take it to a different dealership if I knew I had a 5K or 10K dollar repair or such. And it doesnt take much for Audi to rediculously come up with a 5K dollar repair either. I have seen dealerships charge as much as 3 grand just for a 1K dollar clutch job.

    cheers! mike

I'm going to clear corner my car sometime this week (with the help of that bumper removal DIY); my car is on a lease and obviously cannot revert the headlights back to stock in two years, anyone ever had a problem with clear cornering on a lease?
