    tire stretch questions...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i searched and found a few threads on the topic but not a real definite answer. i have a set of staggered wheels on the way (19x8.5, 19x9.5) in reading threads about staggered setups, ive found most people run 235/35/19 up front and 245/35/19 in back. i already had BF Goodrich G-force 2's shipped to me in this size and they arrived today. i guess i should mention i dont want any stretch... maybe just a slight slight bit but not too much. is this gonna give a little stretch or no? probably shoulda made this thread before i ordered the tires anyways, as always any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

It will barely stretch if at all. Don't worry about it.

    Re: tire stretch questions...

yup, ever so slight stretch on the 235s, the 245 will be flush.

my guess is that if you are low at all, you WILL rub in the rear.

I won't beat this horse, but the 235/245 combo. it wouldn't be at the top of many audi peeps, nor my list. I would have either matched the tires, or gone with something that matched the diameters better.

Yeah, you'd be better off with 235's all around.

really?? thats weird because almost every thread ive read about staggered setups, people run 235 up front and 245 in the rear which is why i ordered that setup. what makes you say it wouldnt be at the top of anyones list??

The 235/35 and 245/35 combo will be fine, it's only a ~1% difference in rolling diameter. Personally, I'd have gone with a 225/35 and 235/35 combo, but I like stretch. You will probably rub in the rear a little bit if your car is low.

Under hard cornering and if you have people in the rear you might. Check my camber adjustment DIY in the How-To forum. Or, make sure they align the car with that in mind after you install the suspension.

    Re: tire stretch questions...

well that tire has round shoulders, so thats good. a square shouldered tire or something that runs wide, like a yok neova ad07, (if they had those sizes) would for sure rub.

you may or may not rub. my guess is that you will.

the KWs are pretty low to begin with. at max height in the rear, my car looks pretty dumped ( i have the kw VIIs) i forget what the height is maybe 25"?

you will want to run max camber in the rear to avoid rubbing. this is an easy DIY. then after the car settles after a week of the new susp being on, go get an alignment, and just tell them to leave the rear camber along, but to make sure they match at the highest degree. as long as you have 0 toe in the rear, the camber will not hurt the tire wear all that much.

as for why not run that setup. even though I think its ok to stagger, and a 1% differential is probably ok, you will get more understeer this way, and if you really wanted the staggered setup, i too would have gone 225/235. although that would give you more of that stretched look.

FWIW, if you were doing this from scratch, you could would get staggered wheels, and same sized tires, or get different offset rear wheels and same size tires.

245/35 on 9.5 will be slightly stretched, definitely not a flat sidewall
