    K04 upgrade question???

    I was told that a exhaust upgrade is necessary to support K04/RS K04. That the stock exhasut creates too much back pressure. Is it absolutely necessary or just a favorable suggestion? Just looking for others input and if you run stock exhaust. Just doing a lil more research

    umm... i guess you could keep your stock exhaust but if I was you I would find a used one for cheap. Stock exhaust really doesnt cause much back pressure however, the downpipes do. If you go K04's it would be absolutely necessary to gut out your precats (which would cost hardly anything) or get a set of uber expensive aftermarket downpipes.

    i have never heard of "having" to gut your precats if you go stage 3. THat dosent even make sense. Theres a few stage 3 guys running all FOUR cats with no problems.

    Apparently, there are people who do this..but why for the love of gawd would you not at least gut the stock ones and make piggies? Motor's already out and it's never going to be easier to change them than now. And if you spent all your loot on the stage 3 stuff, at least these won't cost you anything.

    Of course it makes sense. That's just as stupid as not doing rods with GT28s. K04 tunes run a lot more boost than they were intended for, which is ~17psi. Having a solid piece of ceramic honeycomb shit a few inches downstream of turbos that are pushing ~25psi can really trap a lot of heat and back pressure in there.

    Yes, i understand what your saying, but it isnt "necessary". You can run a stage 3 car with all cats in place and be fine. Also, increased heat isnt a bad thing when it comes to your exhaust.

    Increased heat can definitely cause premature failure from turbos. Especially when running a higher than stock boost.

    More than likely i will be doing stage 3-. If it helps any. Ive already got the piggies done. Im looking into a 2.5" custom exhaust with resonators. It just might not be immediately after the turbo install.

    this is a stupid discussion. I mean come on... if you're going through all the trouble to pull the turbos, why in your right mind would you not slap on some DP's or AT LEAST gut your stock dp's ("Piggies") while you're in there...???

    increased heat? haha please, having a catalytic converter would only increase the heat about 200 degrees, and ONLY at the catalytic converter. before the catalytic converter roughly 50 degrees before the cat.

    it would not damage the turbos. you dont need an exhaust. end of story.

    Just get the exhaust when you can. People do run stage 3 with stock exhaust all the time.

    He already gutted his precats anyways and that's what is hard on the KO3s when running higher boost. end of story.

    So you daily test the differences in temperatures with running precats vs without? Sounds like you have a lot of time on your hands. I was never testing your intelligence but now I am starting to wonder.

    To the OP: just gut your precats. Only costs a few dollars if you don't have the tools.

    Just throwing this out there... but who would want their car to sound like a hover vacuum on steroids?
    AWE, GIAC, Stasis,KO4s, bla bla bla this is getting a bit ridiculous. I hope it will end soon.
