    Sound System question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Can I put in a Sub and amp in my car, while using the stock parts, I have a audi symphony non bose and its pretty loud ( louder than my B5 S4 non bose) but I would just like a little more bass without doing a full overhaul.
    TIA

Yes, you can use a line level adapter and tap into the factory sub harness.

    Re: Sound System question

Am I going to risk blowing my speakers, I think that Audi speakers should be tough enough to handle it, I'm not talking a huge set up like 2 12' but maybe a 12" or 10" Sub.

    Re: Sound System question

Well, I just want a louder bass, but no I dont care to much about making my speakers louder just adding more bass, so would it be worth it to add a sub and amp? If I need to better explain my idea please let me know, I thought to get a better bass, you need sub and amp which in return gives an overall louder music output, if that makes sense. I know that you have to replace the speakers and get amps to power the extra volume but I dont have money for that just a college student haha.

    Re: Sound System question

One more question which set up would you recommend, or I'm thinking a L5 or L7 Kicker sub and which amp would be good to go along with that?

Also will a place such a best buy have this

"Yes, you can use a line level adapter and tap into the factory sub harness."

And one more question I dont want to make a thread about this, I read in the B7 A4 forum that a lot of people are running aftermarket springs only for 20K miles or more, would I be able to do this( I know I can) my car has 60K on it. I'm looking to buy a TT in about 2 years the 08 one so I dont want to do to much to this car. Springs H and R or neuspeed sport

Again thanks for the help and for taking the time to answer some of the anoying questions for me!!!!!!!

it is easy to do but without a headunit the system will sound like poppy!! dont go the car toys route!! people think that just throwing a sub in the car makes it sound better but the fact is it does not with out proper tuning your car is just going to sound like just another car toys system

    Re: Sound System question

In theory, yes. But if since your amp is of decent size, I would highly suggest running a new power line to the battery. I should have included Martini's write up... probably one of the best ever on this topic. This should cover everything...

definitely not recommended. Run power from the battery (w/inline fuse), ground to the trunk or under rear seat. Get the signal and remote turn on lines from the stock amp wiring harness (doesn't matter if bose or non)

My sub makes my system sound better. Because it gets rid of the stock crappy sub. And running the new one allows me to turn the bass down on my head unit - therefore allowing the door speakers to sound cleaner at high volume and letting the sub do all the bass work.

And below is exactly why anyone can enjoy better sound with a sub, regardless of volume or music preference.

^^^yep and you can get a bass remote (if your amp supports one) so you can adjust the subs output.

I had a 10" L7 in my last car and loved it. Kicker makes a matching amp for most of the subs, which I would recommend. Good stuff! They have the remote bass booster which you can mount to your dash.

Our cars shouldn't have a problem because of the larger door speakers, but the square subs seem to hit best with LOW frequencies, so you really was some sort of mid-bass speakers as well.
Upgraded the motor a little, brakes a little more, and suspension a lot.

I'm thinking of getting a 10" sub I dont want the car to rattle and other stuff but a nice bump in the stock system, so your saying I should replace my speakers with what?

    Re: Sound System question

Ok first off best but does not carry kicker or any of its components, I don't reccoment an l5 or an l7 just get 2 10 inch subs u will get decent bass and nice tight responce... Also I do not reccomend powering your amp from your stock amp wiring harness that is only to tap your line out converter into and for your remote wire. To b honest with you there is an easier way. Get into your trunk and pull the plug for your stock sub, tap your line out converter into your stock sub harness. It is only 2 wires u can't screw this up. Then connect it back to the sub. Connect your rca cables and run your remote wire (amp signal turnon) to any switchable 12v power source. I've been installing and messing with sound systems ever since I was 12 so feel free to ask me any questions ii would be more than happy to help and provide detailed pictures

The amp is behind the paneling on the pass side of the trunk. It's a PITA to get at. I don't have a tear down per say, just a few pics.

You need to start with the rear panels at the back of the trunk, then the rubber liners around the edge and eventually you can start pulling it free. Use a flashlight to check for the screw locations.

Locate the two screws found inside the spare tire well.

Remove the screws with a 10mm wrench. This will make it possible to remove the black plastic trunk guard.
To fully remove this piece, pull up were the arrows are shown in the picture above.
After removing the plastic trunk guard, this is what you'll see:

Here's a pic of where it usually resides.

Yeah, might take a little while. Especially the first go around.

Been meaning to pull an exploded version of the trunk linking for a while, seems like a good opportunity to do so. Makes it easier to see how it all fits together and whatnot.
