Engine shut off by itself.

Hey guys, So my engine just shut off on its own. Its similar to a manual stalling and the engine just shuts off with the car still on. Does anyone know whats wrong with my car? The low battery light also came on when it died but I thought a battery can't just die on its own like that when the car is still running. Is it possible that its my battery? Maybe a failed coilpack? I got a CEL recently but I figured that my DV just finally gave out because I started to hear air blown out of my car thats similar to a blowoff valve. Could the CEL have come from something else? PLEASE HELP!

This happened to my mom and then I pointed out to her that she had no gas.

3/4 tank still!!! I mean after I shut off my car and turned it back on. It worked again and I drove normally back home which is about 2 miles of local road.

anyone at all? I think I'm going to the dealership tomorrow but last time I called them to check my CEL and they're bad at life. They asked if it was red or yellow and since it was yellow they said "we have an opening Sept. 3rd, would you like to come in then?" That was like a week and a half from the day I called so I told them no and went to order my DV from AWE.

maybe its a faulty alternator since you said the battery light came on...with a faulty alternator you are just running the engine on pure battery power, without the alternator recharging it

could also be a missing alternator belt, so it could be a semi cheap fix

I thought of the alternator too. Wouldn't a failed alternator actually give me a RED CEL or something though? Also if that was the case then I don't think my car could have turned back on so easily.
