Revs take long to drop in the 6spd Manual

I did a search and came up with nothing.

I have a 06 A4 2.0T Manual and in first gear regular driving I will rev it to about 3k rpm or so (doesnt really matter) and shift to 2nd..........the revs take along time to drop and makes for very difficult smooth shifts.

Also in rush hour traffic, In first gear when you creep you would step on clutch then let go and gas and then if you need to stop you let go of the gas and drpress clutch but the revs stay at 2k or even revs abit ove that by itself.

Not sure if this is normal for the 2.0T a4's. I have owned lots of diff cars and this is the first time I notice this type of problem.

P.S. I took it to Audi and the service tech says its normal and for emissions?????? Fucking tech thinks I'm stupid?!?!

    TIA
    Kevin

Re: Revs take long to drop in the 6spd Manual

If you give this car too much gas from a stop you can get a bit of additional turbo boost so thats whats causing your revs to not drop as quick

I haven't done this to the 2.0T yet, but a lighter flywheel should help and you should consider that when doing a clutch later on. From my observations, this really is one of those normal "they all do that" things for modern (ECM controlled) turbocharged manual-trans cars.

Re: Revs take long to drop in the 6spd Manual

It's normal and it is for emissions. Part of it has to do with the drive-by-wire system. Otherwise google this for a more detailed explanation of this. My B6S4 did the same thing.

Mine does it too. It's normal, it can make it a pain to shift sometimes though.

If its for emissions...would a test pipe or aftermarket exhaust increase the speed of the falling revs?

yeah... shiftings at 3k requires more transition time. Try @ 4k rpm, it is smoother.

Re: Revs take long to drop in the 6spd Manual

Thanks everyone.....but why is it first thing in the morning it drives "normal" with the revs dropping fairly fast, but after 5-10min or so the rpm's start getting slow (heavy)?

Re: Revs take long to drop in the 6spd Manual

i notice that too about the the revs dropping slower after a bit. it is due to the car still being cold compaired to when its warmed up. that is what I have noticed. I try to let it sit for about 5 minutes before i drive to work but sometimes I just get up and bounce. so....just shift at a higher rpm. that is what I have noticed. its a lot smoother this way. also, you will notice that shifting at 15/25/35/45/55/65 are pretty much the smoothest i have found so far. so give it a shot. it gets some getting used to but you'll be okay. my old civic 5sp was a lot different but tahts because the rpms were a lot higher since it only had a 5sp trans. hope that helps!

+1 for civic 5 speed. It was a good car to beat on.
