Re: Good Set of Winter Tires

I had a set of Dunlop M3 for a bit that seemed to work well but are 'spensive

The second set of winter tires I got were Mastercraft Glacier Grip II which were awesome. I used to live in western PA and would frequently drive on un-plowed roads for kicks with no problems running these tires. I got them locally at the General Tire dealer and they were the best bang for the buck ~$100/ea.

Nokian, made in finland where they get hardcore winters. In northern Canada its what everyone uses.

they actually make an all season snow tire, something you can use year round which is handy if something happens to your summer wheels/tires.

I had blizzaks. They were awesome! It was an older model they don't make anymore. I think they wee like MZ-01 or MZ-02. I got some toyo snow tires for my truck and they are not that good. They perform as good as my Bridgestone Dueller AT Revo's which are just and off road all terrain tire. I would not buy that tire again. I would buy blizzaks again!

Re: Good Set of Winter Tires

i got blizzack WS-50's, and would not recommend them at all, they grip OK in the powdery snow, but in slush, wet snow or on ice, they are pretty much

useless. Nokians grip on ice, which not many winter tires do, and are shaped the push slush away from the centre and away much the same as a rain tire.

Re: Good Set of Winter Tires

The real question is studded or non studded winter tires...

If more than half of your driving is on cleared roads in the winter go with the non studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta R. If you are in more snow, ice and slush than on cleared roads, go with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 studded tires. Both are rediculously great. Maybe it is because their test facilities are north of the Arctic Circle in Finland.
