    2 questions.......

OK first off, I had a bad noise coming from the rear when I gave moderate to heavy gas in 1st and 2nd gears. I brought it to my dealer and they claim the noise is from my APR downpipes/cat-back exhaust being too close to the undercarriage crossmember, and it hits at heavy throttle. I know this is BS, because the noises just started a few weeks ago and I've had the exhaust on for several months now... What do you guys think about this?

2nd, I was told that when your CEL is on, it will automatically reduce your engines performance, kind of like a failsafe mechanism that gives you lets say, ie. 75% of the engines potential...... Is this true as well?

    Thanks guys.....

Is your local dealer Inskip? I know that after-market exhaust systems can shift over time .. had the experience on my old Mustang, where I had to re-tighten the header bolts every so often (likely due to bat fitment).

    Re: 2 questions.......

is it a single clunk? multiple clunks? a buzzing? a rattle? does it happen between shifts?

and i just had a CEL yesterday due to my O2 sensor being loose. So i had the CEL cleared and felt the perfomance pick back up. IIRC the car is going to run richer (out of the preferred A/F ratio) with the CEL therefore causing a change in performance.

Its a "dragging" sound kind of right before I shift.... almost a grind sort of.... And its only when I goose it in 1st and on occasion 2nd... I'm almost positive it's a drivetrain problem but then again im no mechanic by any means...

So that CEL thing is true huh....

That does sound like a drivetrain issue.
You can rule out a rear caliper correct?

About the CEL from my personal observations I would say it is true. I dont know if it was my paranoia (first CEL) that kept me off the throttle that much more but when i did get on it, it felt like a pig. Also when i got the CEL cleared it felt much better.

    Re: 2 questions.......

Aftermarket exhausts can shift over time because they expand and contract a lot more then the stock system which can cause them to loosen over time. I had to have mine re-adjusted a few time to get it perfect over the course of about 10k miles. Have the shop that installed the exhaust have a look at it, adjust it if needed and if it still makes noise then take it back to the dealer.

I deal with inskip and they have done nothing but FAIL so far. They replaced my engine in my 04 S4 and the new motor has now failed before they even gave it back to me. They have had my car for F'in 6 weeks now! I am disappointed and they just now gave me a rental car! They said no way they can give me courtesy car because I am only 23 and after 5 weeks they decided ok yeah we will give you one now. Unbelievable.

HA! I'm 23 as well and have had the same god damn issues with them. I paid for the loaner service, and was told I was of age... Just last week they told me the loaners age limit was reduced to 21 from 25....... I'm pretty dissapointed with Inskip... Unfortunatly, they are the only Audi dealer for a good 30 miles around, so I'm kinda stuck with them. I'm going to bring one of the tech's on a ride to show them the sounds, maybe this time they will see the light.

    Re: 2 questions.......

Do you live in RI? ^ Yeah it sucks that inskip is the only place around. I still can't believe that my motor threw a valve through a piston and now a new motor from audi has failed within 1 MF day. They are going to keep my car for another two weeks. Which will bring the total repair time to about 8 weeks. Should have canceled my insurance....

I'm in RI as well. I very rarely see S4's around RI ... saw a black B6 Avant last week on my drive to work, however.

It had RI plates, not MA (assuming your car is reg. there).

It was right outside downtown Providence close to Wickeden Street.

    Re: 2 questions.......

Yeah I rarely see s4's in the area....maybe we should meet up sometime so my s4 does not feel alone. Although inskip will have to give it back to me first. I am driving their sline a3 now. It has paddle shifters and is quite fun to drive. I was surprised at how fast it is.
