So basically i went to my local audi dealership tonight just for kicks and i ended up stumbling across a 2003 a4 1.8tqm in dolphin gray/black interior with the sport package, cold weather package, premium package, and USP rear lip spoiler. It's an audi certified used car so it also comes with an extended warranty, which is more great news, plus it literally got on their lot earlier today so it hasn't even been test driven by anyone else yet. They hadn't even gotten to detail it yet. It only has 56k miles and so i took it for a test drive... loved driving it so much i decided i'm buying it. So tomorrow i'm going to the dealership again and i'm gonna pick it up for $15k . I'm gonna trade in my '97 VR6 passat for $4k and i'm putting 8k down so after taxes i'm only gonna have to finance another $4k. I'm really excited to get her home and start free modding!

haha yeah the original owner probably enjoyed it. But i was going for it's as close to original miles as possible and i'm the only one who's been able to redline it, take it 90 down the freeway, and corner it going almost 55 entering the freeway to test out the quattro . And you'd understand that statement if you saw the corner i'm talking about because my vr6 i'm trading in could tops do 40 or so around that corner and it would feel close to losing some grip, i got it sideways once before on that corner doing like i did in the a4. But because of the quattro on the a4 it just motored around that corner with ease. But yeah i was thinking about that timing belt thing. Isn't there a recall on timing belts too that audi was taken to court for? So if it goes out you can get it replaced for free? Plus i was gonna look into some seafoam for that engine sludge just in case there is any.

I was gonna do that. Do you think if i asked them about it on the lot they would replace it, that is if it hasn't been done?

nice p/up. check the passenger side c pilar for leaks, and check interior for peeling. may also want to scan for codes. dealers are more willing to fix things before you actually purchase. also see if they will repair any door dings that it may have. other than that,,, ENJOY!

Congrats on a nice find.. definatly have them give the car a once over. When I bought mine they fixed a few scratches, a cracked fog light lens, and threw in the car cover and all season rubber mats when I asked. The worst they can say is no.

I would think so. If you're buying it ask them to make sure it is up to date on recalls and other service bulletins prior to you driving it home. Its time to start thinking about a timing belt on that vehicle. Either follow Audi's recommendation of 'inspections' through 100k or do the timing belt on your own anytime after 60k.

Personally, certified warranty through 100k means nothing to me unless the car starts breaking electrically. Every preventative maintenance I do is a lot earlier than they recommend (5k oil changes, 60k timing belt changes, etc). Its preventative. Better to err on the conservative side than to blow up an engine.

not exactly free per se, audi will check the condition of your timing belt for free. if they say you need a timing belt change, then you have to pay for it out of your own pocket.

however, once it's changed (or if they say it doesnt need changing) and the timing belt breaks before its next belt change, then audi will pay for all damages and replace your engine if necessary.

at least that's how i interpreted the warranty letter they sent me.

That actually sounds really shitty. That just sounds like something they should do even before they got taken to court because it's good business practice. But i thought the whole deal was that they had a bunch of a4's with faulty timing belt issues so they kept going out much sooner than they were supposed to, thus the need for replacements. At least that's what i kept hearing about it from the threads that were started. I don't own it yet so i can't physically read the letter since they don't have me on record as an audi owner.

Sucks because i wanted to pick it up today only to go in and find out the asshole salesman quoted me wrong for trade in value for my car the first time which means i have to pay more a month than i thought, and basically the real value that he corrected for me was pretty much shit. So i decided i'm just gonna sell my car moderately priced instead and put more down. Stupid stealerships and their misquoting to get you excited.

Be careful, I repeat, be careful. I got excited like you when I saw my current car @ the dealer.
