I am thinking of upgrading to 18" RS4 reps, but before I do that, do I need to get an 18" spare tire? Right now, I have the stock 15". Also, will an 18" tire fit in the spare tire compartment without modifications?

don't bother. If you get the right sized tires you're overall diameter should still be the same...so as long as your using your spare as a spare ONLY, it'll be fine for those few miles.

    Re: Spare tire

why wouldn't it fit? your just getting a bigger rim not a bigger tire so it wont hav any problems. As for getting a spare rs4 rim you could if you like but it wont make a difference, you can use the 15in rim as a spare (just as long as you dont go with a bigger brake kit)

you don't actually NEED an 18" spare, just as long as the 15" spare is the same, or very close, overall outer diameter as your 18.

    Use this calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Also, I can fit an 18" wheel with a 235/40/18 tire in my spare tire well... I am an avant though... may want to double check with a sedan owner. Just in case.

    Re: Spare tire

first off, many audi a4s and s4s come with 18" rims stock (my USP has a matching spare) but i dont even carry it but it fit at any rate

and even if you have a BBK, just move a back tire to the front and put the spare on the back

    Re: Spare tire

I have a matching 18x8.5 with 235/40/18 as my spare and it fits fine, but pushes the cover up very slightly. Everything noted above is fine but it doesn't hurt to have a matching spare with the same tire and work it into your tire rotation so the tread wear is the same.

Also if you have the money for the matching spare you won't look cheesy rolling around with 3 18" RS4s and one 15" stocker while you get the tire repaired... just my .02
