New Rotors and pads, might DIY

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It's time for new front rotors, pads and a brake fluid change. I've been getting some things done myself and might tackle this. I found what looks like good instructions at Audidiy.com for the rotors/pads change but nothing for the brake fluid change.

    Brakes DIY http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2218737

Can anyone point me to DIY instructions for changing the brake fluid?

Since the brake job and fluid change both need to be done is it important to change the fluid at the same time?

The rear rotors and pads were done 37k miles ago so the pads are probably still in good shape but would consider changing them if it's an impact to changing the brake fluid. Not looking to spend $$$ unnecessarily but thought I would put it out there since this would be my first brake job.

Additionally, any recommendations on what brand of materials and where to get them?

    Thanks

i wouldnt change the break fluid unless you are getting stainless steel break lines. (which i WOULD recommend) If you are going to change the break fluid use super blue, and your going to need a pressure bleeder to do it. start from the back right then back left then front right then front left. I believe thats how its done, look on google, should be the same standard procedure for all cars.

Just get new front rotors and pads for the front. No need to change the brake fluid unless it is really old. I recommend HAWK HPS pads, very strng, low dust but tend to squeel sometimes.

do NOT use the blue oil. the blue dye will make your brake squeak.

Don't change your brake fluid unless it's super old or if your putting in SS lines. Personally, I don't think there's much of a difference with SS lines. Save your money and buy some of adam from spp's rotors off the GB forum here with some hawk hps pads. That's what I did and it's probably the best thing I've ever done to the car. The hawk pads are metallic so they'll feel different than the stock pads, but once you get used to them, you'll love 'em.

I hope you catch all the fluid you'll be bleeding cause in order to do the brakes, you gotta bleed the lines. I just did mine and it sucked! Don't forget the special tool

^ Makes the clutch squeek when you depress it. Clutch fluid is shared with brake fluid in the same reservoir. Brakes won't squeek from it.

man all these people telling you to change the brake fluid...I have NEVER changed the fluid in any of my cars unless I had to change a master cylinder..I don't get Audi's service interval for brake fluid...
