    need help asap oil issues

So today my oil light came on everytime I started my car. Light on and beeping. I pulled over the first time and checked the oil, its perfect. I dont know, maybe it can be the pump, or main bearings or sludge in the pan/ pickup??? I dont have a VAG, I work all over so I drive all the time. I am worried I have some major issues. Also, tonight while driving home, thereloud noises under acceleration, like someone sticking a piece of cardboard or something into a fan (best way to describe it sorry).. Any thoughts or ideas?

    2001 Audi A4 1.8TQ

Please help, and if some one is local (santa rosa, ca area) and has a vag com, i will give gas money and cash for your time. I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only tidbit I can offer is to maybe avoid driving the car if there's a possibility of no or low oil pressure and it is making a strange noise and it just started. This could be a big money saver. Remember how the oil temperature was at the time, higher than normal or ?

Getting a gauge on that oil line or otherwise check the OP sensor would be my next move. You need a 1.8T guru.

Re: need help asap oil issues

thanks for the reply.. I am not driving car now, its at home and I hope to keep it that way until I can figure this out...

oil temp for the last 2 days seem low, like around 160 or so. I am thinking maybe the oil supply and return lines? I will ahve to see about gettign the car in the air and pulling the lines to check them? I am pretty mechanically inclined, just not with Audi's.. Only one way to learn right? I have not had the car too long, and its got 127k on the odometer. I dont knwo how it was truly driven before I bought it and the oil situation. I am using Monbil 1 from day one, but if there was crap ran in it before, maybe lines are caked?

I need a vag com bad, and I dont want to wait for shipping!!!! I wish some one was local and had some time. Does anyone know of any locals to me? Santa Rosa, Ca area???

    Thansk again!

Re: need help asap oil issues

First thing you want to do is remove your valve cover and take a look if there is sludged oil there (thick greasy oil). Easiest way to diagnose.

Brooksthepro- in CA not an option as they passed a law that you can not "rent" diagnositic tools- wtf? i wish i could.

Nebone- I will see about doing that. I cant believe how much those damn lines are. lmao- for oil supply/ return lines? I feel the lines should be making love to me for that cost. oh well!

Those line might be a little too tight to make love to but with the extra slude as lubrication it might work for you . The lines don't need replacement, you have desludging to do most likely. Search the forum on about sludge and how to get rid of it. Pull the valve cover first and if you see sludge, you will have to run chemical through your motor mixed with oil so it can brake up all that crap in there. Good Luck

Re: need help asap oil issues

VAG-COM or OBD-2 scanner won't help you with low oil pressure or even detect it. The car does not have a oil pressure sensor, besides a winky little on/off switch that makes your Light blink when you have Low Pressure.

Dealers diagnose low oil pressure by:
    - Driving the car until they see the light flash
    - Hooking up a pressure gauge that will show them how much pressure the pump is making
    - Desludging Procedure
    - Charging ~$1,000+

thanks for the heads up nebone- i still want the vagcom for the benefit of changing things on the a4 and diagnosing any other issues. I am going to pull the valve cover off tonight and check it out. At this point, i sure hope it just needs a desludging:)

Take a picture of the valve train once you remove the valve cover and post it here.

Re: need help asap oil issues (pics now)

So i took the valve cover off and attached pics (i think) There is a three way hose in the back of the motor that had a tear in it photo is attached. This hose is and has been breaking down, dont know much what it is other than some sort of a breather? anyway, any additional thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated...

    Thanks again.

well.. that light beeped on me.. on and off.. so i parked it .. towed it to audi.. they changed everything oil related.. hoses.. etc etc.. now it's all good..they said if it were to happen again they'd give me a new engine... i believe its just a bit of sludge in the pickup or pan area that triggers a low presure light... bty those pics look sludgy, try seachin on a autorx cycling then take more pics before and after. hope it somewhat helps later

You're valvetrain actually looks pretty clean. Now that valve cover is a different story.

Re: need help asap oil issues

yeah there is build up on the valve cover. nasty. plus there was crap in the rear breather tube that is torn. I am assuming build up is my issue? worth a shot i guess. i will buy some autorx and cross my fingers.
