Can you fit a 245/40 on an 18x8 RS4 DTM wheel with no issues?

My Contisports are starting to get balder than a brazilian waxed happy valley. Am I going to have rubbing issues or anything of that sort, and also, can I squeeze a 245 on there without it creating a bubbly effect for a sidewall?

Also, if anyone has pictures of their setup, feel free to post. The wheels are a Hartmann RS4 DTM rep, 18x8 with a 35 offset. Tires now are 235/40 continental contact sports.

I would love more meat for the winter season, but if it's going to be too much of a hassle, I'll probably stick with what works.

Side note, if I do have to roll the fenders, my uncle told me about a good tool that attaches to the wheel and you just turn it and the tool does the rest. Anyone heard of this, or is he bullshittin me? He builds and races chevys in Nopi for a living so I'd assume he knows his shit.

    thanks guys

Edit: pic of wheels for reference. (other car is tiker0z i think)

I'm pretty sure you're gonna have issue running those wheels with those tires, but there's a fender roller for ya:

    huh? what thing?

As my car sits, the inner fender wells now have gotten eaten up pretty bad. I could certainly use new ones.

mholme: awesome post. Thanks for that link. Would you recommend I do this? I hope I don't f anything up..

the manufacturer of the tire will probably be the most important, what the claimed width is on the sidewall and the tires footprint are always differant from one manufacturer to the next, what i would do after you decide what brand tire you want is to go to the manufacturers website, and hopefully they list the physical dimensions of their tires there, then see what kind of clearance you will have comparing the specs off the website to your current tires.

If you're gonna go with a 245 you'll need to go with a 245/35. 245/40 will likely be tall and rub on the fender and maybe even the uprights. Obviously this will be tire dependant, since some tires run wider than others. But I very rarely see people running 245/40's because of the rubbing issues.

I just Put on my new DTM's today. I am running a 225/35/18 and it fits just right, and looks amazing. Just go with what works, you'll be happy you saved the money and the headache in the long run.

Why 35 and not 40 if you were staying with 225 anyway?

Re: Can you fit a 245/40 on an 18x8 RS4 DTM wheel with no issues?

To be honest Mark, much of it depends on the actual tire itself, as some tires have more sidewall than others.

When I had the reps, they were an 8.5" width and I ran a KDW2 at 235 and had tons of meat left over. If I ran a 245 it would have been that sidewall look you don't want. But if I had ran a different tire, perhaps a non drag radial, it might not have a side wall so deep.

However! On my SL's that are 8", I plan to run a DR that is a 245. But that all depends.

On top of that the, 235's rubbed like a slut, but that has more to do with offset.

On another side note, I'ma call you tomorrow. I missed your call today, but Clint is going back to school this week. He said he can do it on an upcoming weekend, if you are cool with that. I'll give you a shout tomorrow. (assuming I remember)

^ There's no way I would go to a smaller tire than what I have now.

I'm gonna try to make the 245 contisport II's work. I'll keep y'all updated when I get em.

Derek: Call me whenever. Would love to get it done asap.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

245/35-18 is a good fit as long as your fenders are rolled and your wheel has et35 offset like most of our 8" wide wheels.

I ran 245/40-17 last winter and never had any problems. It actually had more inner clearance than 225s on stock wheels. My fenders are rolled flat and sealed which was very important. I cut the horizontal portion of the plastic inner liner to tell when a tire was interfering with the original fender lip position. It rubbed when coming down after a speed bump. I cut the liner an inch higher and it never touched again. This was on stock 1.8t sport suspension which is lower than S4 stock suspension.

Great post. I am definitely sold on 245's for my next tire setup. I do infact have 18x8 et 35 wheels so I will pick that fender roller tool up that mholme posted and go to town!

Continentals run very wide. 245's in the conti's are 255's in other tires. Ah10 on Audiworld has 245/35/18 Continental contact patch 3's on his S4 and they took a lot of work to fit. First he needed the right offset so they wouldn't rub the upright (ET 32 on his 18x8.5 Works) and he also needed to cut the fender lip and then roll what was left, so he wouldn't rub.

I had 245/35's pirelli Rosso's on my ET 38 work emotions and they fit fine, with no rubbing. So ya, it really depends on the tire. But from what I've seen the Conti 245's will take some work to fit. Not to mention they are freakin expensive.

Gotcha. Any recommendations for a decent all season tire that won't set me back as much, and will actually fit on an 18x8 et35 without a major problem?
