So I installed the LED bulbs in licence plate.... no light out error

I put the bulbs in first and thought I'd turn the lights on and see if the bulb out warn came on w/out installing the resistor. Put them in, no error. Drove it around the subdivision still no error on dash. Does it take a while for the system to recognize them not being there? I also pulled one of the bulbs out completely and still didn't get an error message. Is it possible I don't need the resistor I bought? They work and look great. Just wondering why I don't have any errors showing.

Does this mean I can swap out my 194/168 city lights with LED's also?

No color display on the dash. Just shows miles till empty, radio channel, and a quick system check via the check button on the dash. Pretty basic dash layout.

Have you installed both the bulbs? Had just one bulb installed and then it didn't flicket, but as soon as I put in the other one it started flickering.

What bulb excactely did you buy from autolumination? There are so many different bulbs!!!

Both are in there, bought the 39mm 9 LED super white festoon bulbs. I'll check again tonight to make sure they are not flickering. I might not have noticed that last night. Guess it can't hurt to put the equalizer in anyway.

Apparently 06's are OK to have LED's in them without resistors. I have SMD LED's in my 06 A3 without any problems or codes, however, I can't have them in my 08 A4.
The best thing to do is vag it and see if there is any soft code.

I don't understand this. From what I understand the entire point of the equalizer is to handle the excess wattage that the low wattage LED does not need. That power/voltage whatever needs to go somewhere and without an equalizer the LED would heat up and over time, would fail.

Resistors are like $5. I have the LED lights and the 1 resistor and I have zero issues, no flickers and no warnings. $5 isn't much for piece of mind. I have an 06.

Not hot at all, they aren't flickering, and no light out error. I have to buy some bulbs for my boat from that site. I'm going to try them in my city lights and if all is good I'll buy some for those as well.

So from what I gather guys with the 06 A4 have no issues putting LED bulbs in their car without resisters. I have a 06 A4 with the color DIS and would love the effect of instant on/off of all my marker lights by changing them from incandescent to LED. Has anyone done this kind of setup before?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe some have tried it and they were getting to hot and burning the housing.

I think ppl that put the hoen city light got some melting but I doubt LEDs will heat up enough to cause any issues.

Someone please confirm that LEDs w/o resisters on a 2006 A4 color DIS does not give any problems. I am so excited.

My 06 A3 does not have the color display, and I have NOT tried the LED's in the city lights. I only have them in the license plates. I can only confirm no bulb warning on the license plates.

Here's an other option. I have the Xenon standard interior kit with all options installed in my 2005.5. Probably one of my best up-grades. I get no bulb out warnings.

I believe this 06 thing is connected to the B6 platform which underlies the B7 model. I remember in another thread which talked about license plate leds it stated that B6 models did not require anything additional for installation. If any B6 members can chime in and confirm this that would be helpful.

ordered the festoon bulbs that the OP ordered.. maybe the 9 high intensity led one draws *just* enough current to avoid the dash light warning? who knows... either way, i have a 2007 MY w/ red DIS so hopefully this works (i doubt it); and i can report my findings here.

Nope i dont have color DIS...just a standard red readout of DTE.

i ordered bulbs for all my interior bulbs...and two for the tails....and two bulbs to try in the tail lights...

all the bulbs are the same in the tails, so i only ordered a pair to test in all the sockets, to see how they behave as brake/tail/reverse lights
