ok, so im too lazy to search for everything as im on pain killers with my arm in a sling. whoopidy doo!

but, lost my one and only key(never lost any keys before but always thought i should have gotten a spare).

what's the cheapest way to go about this?

ebay FOB and then go to the stealer and have them cut a new one? they have my key on record through the VIN or something like that right?

and how do i program it? im only familiar with the way to program it with the new key in the door and original in the ignition(or vise versa). but no more original so im at a loss.

    thanks guys!

Ouch, way to kick a man while he's down.

From what I've heard, I thought the only way to get a new key made when you don't have one to copy from is to go to the dealer with your registration info etc and have one ordered. I could be wrong, but hopefully someone can confirm.

    Re: lost my key. shit!!!

I am actually having the same problem right now :-( Just last Friday I lost my one and only key and had to have my car towed to the dealership. I paid 154 for a new key and today I have to pay another 50 bucks to have it programmed to my car.

I am currently trying to figure out a way to program it myself...

Oh- and they also got me another key just from my vin #

    Hmm could be worse.

I thought it can be programmed by turning the key in the door or something of the sort.

I think there's a DIY somewhere around here...

    key programming:
    http://www.audiforum.ca/general-d-i-...ogramming.html

I got a key made from me dealership just by giving the VIN number as stated above. Maybe get a valet key made and buy a key fob off ebay and have it cut to your valet key?

    Re: lost my key. shit!!!

well thanks for all the help guys. excluding that jbrown douche

    but there's what im doing.

order valet key from AoA for $60

taking blank ebay fob to local key shop to cut to the valet key for $35

then taking the newly cut ebay fob back to the dealer to have them program it for $50.

    total-$145

dealer wanted $185 for just a programmed and cut fob.

this way i save $40 and get a valet key out of it for future problems. hell, i'll probably order 2 fobs and still save money by porgraming the second one for free.

    any other suggestions guys?

Make sure the key you're getting has a virgin immobilizer chip in it. If it is a used key fob with a used chip, the dealer cannot reprogram.

I have only one key too and wanted to get a second one just in case. I bought FOB from eBay but the only shop that can cut this kind of key doesn't want to do it because it's made of steel and not brass :( Still looking for another shop that could do it

    Re: lost my key. shit!!!

The remote on your key should be about $60 from the dealer. The key part (with the immobilizer chip in it) is about $80 from the dealer. If you order them on eBay with the correct FCC ID's and such, you may still not be able to program the immobilizer. I ordered 4 from various people on eBay and NONE of the immobilizers would program, but all the remotes were fine. I recommend just buying from the dealer. My dealer charged $120/hour with 1 hour charge to program as many keys as you have. Besides, if you order a key from eBay, the blank key part might already be cut and you may need to buy new blanks. Also if it isn't cut then you'll have to have someone else cut it. Just buy it from the dealer!

The dealer does NOT need ANY keys to program your car. If they tell you this, it is a complete lie.

They do need all your keys though when doing any programming. If you happen to find your lost key later, it will NOT work with your car anymore to start it.
