OK I knew there were a few people who were looking for this so I decided to take some pic's along the way. Total time 45 min if I were to do it again It would take like 10. Now I know where everything is any how to get to it with out breaking it.
first part is easy. take a flat head screw driver and push in on the side of the trim piece on both sides. Start on the right side as there is more room. Im my case after the right side was loose I was able to just pull the other side out
After you pull back the trim. You can do 2 things. 1 you can trim the tabs above the radio so you will have enough room to slide the bottom piece of the cup holder out. Or (I would suggest this) just pull out the radio.
Notice the two arrows in the top of the pic. There are 2 tabs that need to get pushed down to release the cup holder unit from its location.
You will need a thin shaft screw driver to get in the holes to push down the tabs. You need to push them down and then pull out the unit at the same time
After you get the holder loose you need to remove the ELE connector from the back of the unit. This is much different from most of the connectors we see. This one has a tab that needs to get lifted up and then pull out the ele connector.....The only thing that was odd to me was the new unit has the connector on the other side...
The rest is really straight forward just reconnect the ele (make sure to test) and re install
then you are all done.
with the right tools the job should go well..... The only thing I noticed was the radio was super hot when I removed it. I had not used the car in 3 days. It was almost like the radio had been on full blast or some thing. It was really hot.
