Well car was robbed over the weekend.

We have high ($2500) HO insurance deductible so it will all be out of pocket...

Anyways, they trashed trunk lock (actual cylinder is all beat up). Back seat of car was down because I was hauling stuff earlier in the week. Trunk sensor is the one that was triggered, and no damage to front door, so looks like they came in through trunk and into the cabin of car through the seat that was down.

They made out pretty well given the amount of time it probably took them. 80g Ipod, passport 8500 x50, cannon digi camera, 200 bucks cash friend gave me earlier in the evening for plane ticket, and MTX 12" sub/500w amp. My head unit was still pulled (from hardwiring FM modulator) but they decided to leave that (after rifling through the owners manual and not finding radio code I assume..) which was nice of them. Either way they got about 1700-1800 worth of my crap.

I will admit everything, with the exception of the sub/amp, was visible from outside the car which was stupid of me. It was parked in an area that I never would worry about break-ins. As it turns out over a dozen cars were hit in the same general area (according to Cincinnati's finest).

After replacing everything I'm not sure what else to do. I can't help but think if the car alarm "horn" was louder that someone might have noticed it going off. It happened after 3am so it makes sense no one was awake etc... Maybe its time to replace the muted horn with something that will really get peoples attention.

Sorry to hear about that man. Like you said you can't even leave your car in a "safe" neighborhood anymore. Sorry.

Yeah, someone pointed out that even if your neighborhood is "safe" there are plenty of thieves willing to drive to the "safe" neighborhoods where they know they will find nice stuff.

I will certainly be more careful and think twice about where I park, and more importantly, what I leave in the car (or at least lock few things in glove box, at least make them work harder for it).

Not be an ass but a CCW is to protect your life not your stuff. You shoot someone for breaking in your car there are going to be issues. It is for defensive purposes only. It would suck to watch your stuff trashed or broken into or stolen. But no need to go rambo and put yourself in danger. Now putting a q-beam on them from a window and scaring them away is another thing. But I am not leaving the safety of my house to deal with anything like that. Cops will be called. Hounds many be loosed. But I probably wouldn't put a dog in danger ether.

CCW is concealed carry weapons permit. It is a terrible idea on so many levels I can't list them all. I worked with a CCW trainer and a volunteer sheriff's deputy for years and this is all they talked about. Go to the range and practice shooting a silhouette. Then when you are approached by someone willing to hurt you for your insured valuables you can shoot them without thinking. Military training is based on the same principles of desensitization.

    True but...

All anyone has is their life. I wouldn't want to trust my life to someone out to do me harm. Sure take my stuff then stab me or whatever.

CCW is not a being a cop, you are not stopping the injustice of the world. It is the last last last last last did I say last resort for saving your bacon and not allowing someone to take your life.

I don't CCW. But I understand why people do.

As onemoremile said people do get obsessed with it and look for a reason to shoot someone. There taking my shit I can shoot them. That is totally the wrong reason to have a ccw. I have personally seen what the effect of taking someone's life justly has done to more than one person. It is not something I wish on anyone.

But I do know a lot of healthy gun owners/ccw's who don't look forward to the day that they might have to use their gun to defend themselves or their family but are ready incase there is a situation that demands it.

    CCW?!
I've been doing that. I hate parking on streets and try to avoid it as much as possible. You never know when some idiot will side swipe you or do something of that sort. But not everything is in your power, I at least try to do my part.

This is something I really need to improve on. I leave my golf clubs in the trunk, they are valued at over $2500. I am always paranoid that someone will jack them. I just dont have room for them at college in my room.

As far as a capping the guy for robbing your car, its not really considered self defense, so your probably gonna fry for that.

so you're saying its not ok to shoot someone who wants to hurt you? Protecting your car is one thing, but protecting your life is another.
