Ok guys. Just had to dump alot of cash into my car. Clutch went. I have 63k on my 2001.5 S4. I want to do the timing belt. I am asking if anyone in the philly area that has done this would lend me a hand. I know how to wrench I am just nervous to do this un supervised. I can pay in food and booze. Oh and I will make the little lady hang out in the garage in a thong.. Let me know if anyone wants to help me out. Thanks.

Is she hot too? Wouldn’t want to see a huge chick in a thong!!! Just messing with you. Would help, but live in Houston. What all are you doing with your t-belt job?

Could I make a suggestion from my experience? Change all of your seals at the same time… it's preventative maintenance and saves you the headache for later. I wish I would have done this because now my front cam seals are leaking. The front cam seals are in front of the car and the rest would be easier to change while you have the car in the service position. Basically, get this kit along with your t-belt kit… and don’t forget to rent the tool (or buy it).

    http://blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GF21002

I’m gonna wind up doing another t-belt job because of this… so I’ll have to spend the money again and the time again… I only put like 25k miles on since I did the t-belt.

I couldn't agree more. I did my cam seals and crankshaft seal last time I did it. You're right there. And yea, I rented the tools from Blau also. Once you get that camshaft alignment tool, it's not such an intimidating job. It's hard to screw up the timing with that tool.

I'm in MN, so am not going to help w/o a picture that documents the "little lady" in the thong.....

I will get a pic up soon. I was going to order the Kit from ECS. Comes with the tools needed. So should I order cam seals from there as well?

Yea sure... I've bought lots from them. Don't know if they rent the tools though. And the tool that pulls the crankshaft seal is real nice to have given the clearance you have down there.

Oh, and the pic.....no Google image stuff. She needs to be standing by your Audi....not on some secluded beach somewhere with professional lighting. We are NOT naive.....

    Re: Timing Belt

I would use the blau kit because it comes with the valve cover gaskets, cam tensioner gaskets, cam plugs, and cam seals, which all have a tendency to leak oil. You can also get the tool rental from there for the cam tensioners

    Re: Timing Belt

    sure do

    http://blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=N1A1009%2DD

    and here's the tbelt kit:

    http://blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GH21113%2DA

the kit is missing a tensioner, which comes with other kits, but you can normally re-use it if you slide a piece of coat hanger in it... it also comes with instructions, which are nice if it's your first time on this car.

Use the crank lock pin and also whatever else you can muster to secure the shaft from rotating

Yea that crankshaft locking pin (tool you use to hold the lower half of the engine at TDC) + a breaker bar + a pipe over the end of the breaker bar.

Then you should rent one to do that timing belt job. It keeps the lower half of the engine locked at TCD so you can match that with the cam shafts.

    Re: Timing Belt

you can do it without tools, i did my timing belt job without them. use a wrench to hold the passenger side camshaft pulley steady when you put on the belt, compress the tensioner via the pulley and slip the belt over it, and make sure to turn the engine over a few times to make sure everything is bang on before re-assembling. I also highly recommend changing the t-stat, I ended up having to do my t-stat after the belt, wouldn't call it a hard job, but it was time consuming.

if your doing seals you probably will want to get the tools because the camshaft sprockets don't have an alignment pin or woodruff key, etc to make sure they are installed properly.

Mac you can do that....but you get more accurate timing if you loosen those cam shaft sprockets. That way the tension on the belt is distributed evenly across the cams, tensioners and other pulleys. Then you crank down the sprockets.

    Re: Timing Belt

I think we were all just having a little fun with it. No one wants to say anything too "personal" about another guy's wife....at least not on this site.

My advice? Rent the tools, save your wife's equipment for the next morning. You'll be too tired at the end of the day.

without a doubt that will work better, i was just meaning the job is still doable without the tools.
