    Suspension question (I Searched) PIX

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello fellas!
I need to lower my car, and now im in dilemma not knowing what coils to get! Ive searched the site for answers but havent really found what Im looking for!
I looked at KWs, H&Rs, Konis, Stasis and few others. Now my budget is $1200 and Im looking for something thats not too stiff nor bouncy (the bouncy part usually depends on how stupid low u go, Ill be lowering it to the point where I will have a finger gap..1"-2"lower from stock). Basically I want to keep comfort and improve handling. I've read different stories about H&R Coils that suite me and stories that dont! I really dont know what to get! HELP

    Thanks in advance

I'd try to find a few people local(maybe in your regional forum here or audiworld) with various set ups and see if they'll take you for a spin. You've got an Avant so that might not be as easy if you had a sedan, but worth a shot.

Love my Stasis Set up. Drives great as a daily sits low and also has a great feel to it when I push it into a turn.

Yeah for 1200.00 i would get some stasis streetsports which are about 950.00 or try and wait for a groupbuy and get some vogtlands.

Or check out the regular Vogtlands from PureMS, with their summer coupon it should be a little less than $1,100. Either that or get the Stasis Street sports.

I have the kw v1's and the ride's great, not bouncy at all andfeel's almost better than stock as far as comfort They also feel great when pushed hard. Not to mention they are stainless steel so you won't have to worry about them rusting. With you being in GA that shouldn't be a factor tho.

Re: Suspension question (I Searched) PIX

I like koni's because they are a low pressure shock and allow a spring to compress as quickly as possible, allowing it to react in time to imperfections to the road and resulting in a well handling but comfortable ride. an overly stiff ride is not better because the cars weight will be thrown around between the 4 wheels when you go over a bump.

a good site to check out is turnfast, this link takes you to the suspension section about shocks:
    http://www.turnfast.com/tech_handling/handling_shocks

anyway, with Koni's you will most likeley have to use a spring with a stiffer spring rate than stock because the stock spring is designed for a high pressure shock which dosn't allow for the spring to compress quickly, so spring stiffness is lessened in order to compensate. This is assuming the stock S4 setup uses a high pressure shock, i don't know yet because i haven't removed my shocks.

So, contrary to their popular name in the U.S., the purpose of the "shock absorber" is not to absorb the shock of bumps on the road. That is the job of the springs. The purpose of the shock is actually to dampen the oscillation of the springs. Reflecting this function, those outside the U.S. refer to shocks as dampeners.
