A6 engine swap is it possible?

I have a 99 2.8 A6 and im looking to possibly swap out the engine with a 4.2 V8 from a A8L. I have several ?'s however. The V8 engine is an 01 are the v8s in the b6 s4's tuned different than this? And how hard of a swap is this? Install Price aside what are we looking at? Would the Tranny have to be swapped out as well?

Anything is possible with the right amount of money.

I think you may run into a couple problems with the 4.2... But some other people will probably chime in and be able to explain better than I. Why not the 2.7?

Im not really sure... maybe the whole turbos and more maintenance part? Not really Sure i just happend to look in the classifieds on here and see a 4.2 engine for sale. And it got me thinking as to what if. Another reason I want the 4.2 is PES is coming out with a supercharger for it so to drop those to in my A6 I thought would be somewhat unique. Just a thought as I said. Thanks for your help though!!!

No problem... I know it could be done with the 4.2. Like I said, anything is possible... It's more about realistically figuring the cost of the swap, and then deciding whether or not it's REALLY worth your time.

I'm fairly new to Audi's.... But I came from VW's, and owned an obd2 12v vr6 swapped 89' VW GTI.

The A6 4.2 is wider and has a slightly longer nose then the V6. It would be a pretty good amount of work to shoe-horn a 4.2 in your car.
