    Aux Water Pump -

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im assuming the big puddle of water in the middle of my engine block is from the Aux Water Pump?

I dont have anywhere to do the swap myself so does anyone know how much this would usually run at the stealership?

    dont replace it.

DELETE IT! just get an extension or get a hose long enough to make it to both ends.

yea, im pretty sure the intake mani has to come off. but you maybe be able to do it w/o removing it. after disconnecting, pull it our the back, by the firewall.

Geno, you should not delete it. The reason it is there is to pull boiling coolant from the CHRAs when you shut the car off and pull it up to the coolant tank to allow the gas bubbles to re-condense.

You should buy the OEM relocation kit and move it to the from of the motor right above the alternator. This way, should it ever leak again, it's a 30min job to replace.

It can be done with the manifold in place, though it's not easy to do.

you have a very valid point, but the remedy is letting the car idle longer before you pull the key. in my case, i just let the car sit and cool via turbo timer. also, unless you run the car really really hard n shut it down right away, it shouldnt be an issue, no?

    my 2 cents.

    Re: Aux Water Pump -

According to the 2.7T self-study guide, the pump is meant to pull coolant in a backwards flow through the CHRAs and cylinder head to ensure that any vapour bubble actually do make it out of the cooling sleeves. I'm assuming here that even the normal flow of coolant (that flow being from the actual water pump) isn't capable of drawing these vapour bubbles out properly and thus the need to use a reversed flow pattern.

It also says that the Aux pump coolant sensor will activate the pump any time the coolant in the rear pipe exceeds the preset value. It also runs the fans at 40% speed at those times too.

    Re: Aux Water Pump -

I just replaced my aux water pump. I called my dealership about the relocation kit. They had no idea what I was talking about. I even had a tech bulliten (found in Bently) giving them the part numbers and still had no record. My dealership SUCKS. I was unable to find the relocation kit so I just replaced it. Hope it doesn't start leaking again.

If you delete do you have to install resistors to keep CEL light off? Ive done this on VW's before and it never tripped one, but I know these ecu's are a lot smarter.

    Re: Aux Water Pump -

common misconception - "the aux water pump is only for cooling turbos down after running." .... hmm wrong. it circulates coolant throughout the entire engine after shutdown. VR6's are n/a and have them.
    dont delete it.
i dont see how you could do it without removing the intake manifold.... there's barely any space

Mine was cracked and the dealership installed a new one at the relocated position per Audi's recommendation under my extended warranty. The dealership SHOULD have a relocation kit.

    Re: Aux Water Pump -

Too add to this discussion, not engough that you should not delete the pump, you should also replace temp sensor for aux pump system with 93c one so that it actually kicks in each time it is needed. The default sensor is something like 107c which is way to high for this system to trigger on all occasions it might be needed.

I did this mod and finally I can see it working. It never kicked in for me prior to.

I know this is an old thread but...

Julex, I am interested in replacing my default sensor. I also do not ever hear the aux coolant pump kick in. Could you give us a little bit of info about where the sensor is located and where I could find one? Also, is there a way to test the aux coolant pump?

    Thanks so much!
