    Re: APR chip install questions

thanks legion, i think im going to make an apptment with Streetwerke out of Palo Alto. I hear the install is about an hour long. That true? if so, thats not bad. And what else other than swapping the ecu do they do to the car?

    Re: APR chip install questions

you're just buying the chip? If so, they don't swap the ecu, they'll just solder it in for you.

    Re: APR chip install questions

if it is just the chip you will pay more than $50... I think to install the chip you also need an encryption board. If the chip you are buying also includes a encryption board than that is a good deal and it will cost around $50...

    Re: APR chip install questions

    BeatjunkieXL,
Let me guess, you got this chip off of CL from a guy in SJ? In any case, Street Werkes no longer does soldering since their soldering guy left months ago. I too was interested in this chip and found it almost too good to pass up. Then I called up the APR dealer in SF and they also do not do any soldering but instead ship it out to APR. Then I just called up APR myself and asked who I can bring it to and they said that desoldering the chip from a board can potentially damage the chip and render it useless and that they have done that many times in the past even with their experience. With that in mind, I decided to pass on this chip b/c it was too risky. BTW, what I don't understand is that the factory ECU can be bought for $100 if you are patient, so I don't know why the original owner paid to have the APR ecu removed. In any case, I do wish you luck and hope that everything works out for you.
