Clunkiness when disengaging clutch in B6 S4

I have a 2005 S4 with ~ 25,000 mls which I acquired a year ago. Ever since day 1, I've noticed a definite "clunk" when letting the clutch out to reverse out of the driveway first thing in the morning. The car then continues to be extremely sensitive to clutch action and will experience a clunk/thud for example from 1st to 2nd gear in all but the most delicate shifting/clutch actions. It gets better when the car is warm but even then I find the car can still be "clunky" when shifting between gears. When I complained to the dealer, they ended up replacing front control arm bushings (apparently a TSB) but that did absolutely nothing to help.
I do in fact remember reading a new car review on the B6 S4 several years ago where the journalist complained about some clunking when changing gear.
So, is that normal in these cars?
I hope not because otherwise I love the car but this problem really spoils the driving experience.
Any help, would be much appreciated.

Snub mount maybe? Hard to tell exactly what you're trying to describe, but in general a snub mount helps big time shifting. From what you explained I'd assume it's semi-normal though, especially if it gets better as the car warms up.

Im having a similar clunk but it seems to be worse AFTER i had my APR snub mount installed. I just figured it was part of having a stiffer motor mount but maybe its something else? Its only really noticeable to me when im in 1st gear and I push the clutch pedal down, it takes a second but it feels like something in the engine bay just droped and the tranny jerks. I notice it on 2nd to 3rd but that 1st gear then pushing the clutch in feels horrible.

At $40 plus 30 mins of labor it sounds like a snub is worth doing even if that's not the solution :)

The ECS snub makes a definite improvement in this issue - however, there's no way it gets done in 30 minutes. Maybe on an A4, but with the V8 shoehorned into the S4 you're looking at 2.5-3 hours to get this done.

Thanks guys for the comments. I'll try taking it back to the dealer to see what they say and if they claim it's "normal", I'll try the snub mount upgrade.
