So i live just out side of Seattle and drive 30-50 miles every day for work and school, did i mention that my tires are bald.

What is a good tire that is not loud on the freeway, but still has good grip and speed, that will also handle the snow, rain, sun, all the crap that comes with the pacific northwest

Ive looked at toyo proxies 4(cheapest), some Yokohama's and Michelin's( most expensive so far, quoted at 1000 for all 4 done)

Any advice from people that live up here?

    Re: Tire Advice

I have heard and read positive remarks on the Toyo Proxes 4 in regards to dry and wet performance, but I am not sure how well they will perform in the snow. Perhaps someone that has more experience in your type of climate will chime in since we North Carolinian's rarely see such inclimate weather.

Michelin Pilot Sport AS are awesome and so worth the money, I live in New England with similar weather. Not much road noise and great in all conditions.

i second teh BF Goodrich. i had those on my mercedes and loved them. used to drive up to salt lake in the winter and it handled great in the snow. the highway noise wasnt bad at all.

    Re: Tire Advice

i live just north of seattle in edmonds and i have pirrelli p6 four season tires right now. They were recommended to me from a couple different places plus a couple friends who have them. It's a great tire for sure, gives me plenty of grip in the rain that is always present lol, and in the winter they grip well in snow as well. Not a whole lot of road noise either since they are a pretty mid range tire. Not too aggressive tread but not too little tread either. Another good tire is what my mom has on her Mercedes. Continental tires, forget which specific model but you could visit a Mercedes dealer and find out, they came standard. Very smooth and quiet, but her car is RWD and sucks in the rain and snow no matter what tires she has so i'm not sure how they perform in washington whether on FWD or AWD. They are a little bit pricier though. I don't know you could give them a try though.

BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sports, excellent A/S tire that are only $125 for the OEM 17" size on Tire Rack.

They also have a wicked looking tread pattern, my car looks pretty sinister when viewed from the rear IMO...

    Re: Tire Advice

^^ yeah i love the P6's from what i've experienced with them so far. But i don't know what i'm gonna go with for my next tire. I basically would be looking for the same thing as you though, the best possible all season tire that works well under all conditions but is comfortable as well. I haven't tried out too many tires though, only a couple high performance low profile summer tires, which all really sucked in the rain or snow. Hardly any grip. The P6's were my first all season tire, i went looking around at different tire places in my area and they all recommended it. I really needed a new tire bad so i didn't have much time to look around. I was already too bald and putting it off so found a good price and went with the P6's with siping. This was in about novemeber just before snow season started up at steven's. I'm happy with them.

    Re: Tire Advice

i just got a set of continental contiextreme contacts, UHP all season's, about a month ago. its been rainy here in PDX the last week and they have been great. they are supposed to have great snow traction for an all season tire, i usually go to mt hood to ski ~30 times a year so we will see. i got them off of tire rack for 102 each, plus shipping was like 40 bucks.

I got a set of Falken Azenkis at the beginning of the summer and so far I am happy. Really quiet compared to what I was on before (conti sport contact 2's) Not as grippy as those, but still plenty capable. Good speed and wear ratings, but have not tested in snow yet... fingers crossed. So far in the bit of wet I've taken them through they have performed rather well. For the price I am thrilled!

    Re: Tire Advice

I had Proxies on my M35, not sure if they were Proxies 4 or not, got them at Les Schwab for $1700 for four. My A4 came from Seattle and the PO put on some Nokians, with a weird siping design, these are great tires, soft compound grip real well. I yet have to see some moisture for wet traction, but I'm guessing these would be excellent from the aqua channel grooves.

F1 A/S are very good tires IMO, but for the money I would go with the tires I mentioned above, $125 a pop in the 235/45/17 flavor.

And they are worlds better than the P6 garbage they put on these cars, my sister hates the ones on her 500 which came with them from the factory as well...

I just installed these on my car. Drove 8miles so far so I can't comment on their performance. I did notice some noise on the highway . Not a fan of highway noise since that is all I do. However, I got them for $100 a tire with less than 1,000miles on them so I have no right to complain.

i had p6's before on my b6, i took care of them (rotations and such) and never had any issues, infact i had over 45k on them, and not to bump strips before i got rid of it, ive had kuhmo's and falkens and they were garbage, my P6's made it fine though a winter in michigan as well.

i have yokohama yk-520's now, they a pretty nice tire, and on my mom's 01 2.7t A6, it came with conti's, which were garbage, the p6's were so much better on that thing, good wet weather / snow handling. i got my p6's for $600 installed at discount tire a couple years back.

    Re: Tire Advice

i had mine installed for the same price at the same place. I agree 100% on the p6's though. I had some other tires on my car and they are just complete shit even in wet conditions. But these p6's are great, i've had mine since november and they look like the day i bought them. They perform amazing in the snow, and i have no issues with grip on wet pavement, in fact i have to try pretty hard to make them burn out even on fwd when it's wet. I never have any issues with hydroplaning even on the freeway. And i mean living in seattle with all this stupid rain, that's amazing that i've never hydroplaned with these tires. And shit, in my fwd i got up my gf's really steep driveway and street no problem when it was covered in ice and snow and even her dad had troubles getting their 4wd expedition out and to the top of the street . I'm extremely satisfied with the p6's. I'll stand by those tires all day.
