QINGDAO, China (AP) - The Olympic committees of Spain and Italy have filed a new appeal of Denmark's gold medal in 49er skiff sailing, demanding that the team be disqualified for switching boats just before their final race started, the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced Thursday.

Silver medalist Spain's previous protests were rejected by race juries, so the committees took the case to sport's court of final appeal.

The mast of the Danish boat, sailed by Jonas Warrer and Martin Kirketerp Ibsen, broke just before the start of Sunday's medal race. They borrowed a boat from the Croatian team, and sailed under the CRO nationality markings.

In previously rejecting protests by Spain and Italy, the juries said that race officials had approved the Dane's using the borrowed boat and awarded them the gold.

A news release from the court said the Italian and Spanish committees want those decisions reversed, and for the court "to declare that the Danish team was not entitled to take part in the gold medal race, to disqualify the Danish team and to reallocate the Olympic medals to the Spanish team [gold medal], to the German team [silver medal] and to the Italian team [bronze medal]."

It said a closed hearing will be held Friday in Beijing.

so wouldn't that have made it even harder for denmark to win gold since it wasn't even their boat? That's like trying to win a cycling race on someone else's bike.

Not quite...you would have to go and find that other persons bike first and then try to make it over the start line within the 4 minutes time frame!!!
Yes their feat was amazing (if you have ever raced sailboats you know this) and it is SOO dissapointing that some countries would lack the OLYMPIC SPIRIT TO SUCH A LEVEL! I hope the USA basketball team KILLS the Spanish whimps in the final!!!
