    Re: Big Tuurbo Upgrade!!!

there are a lot of threads to read so a do a good search. With a turbo that big you are going to have to do rods in the engine and a clutch for starters.

    you need a bigger intercooler
    software
    injectors
    downpipe
    exhaust

lots of supporting mods Search and you will find.

You will definitely need internal upgrades of at LEAST rods at the bare minimum. But typically if you're going that far, most people might as well upgrade everything else. But all you really need is rods. If you plan on being able to rev up to 8000-9000rpm, you will need to rebuild the head with stiffer valve springs and new retainers. My current setup is able to rev up to 8500, which really WAKES UP the 3071R. While you're working on the head, longer duration cams would also help a lot and open up your top end. On the drivetrain, a clutch is definitely needed. Everything else just comes thereafter--for there is no real limit on how much you can do (which is why modding cars is evil). :)

With all these mods, expect around 380-400whp (depending on setup and tune).

If your doing all that just skip the 3071r and go for the 3076r.

    Re: Big Tuurbo Upgrade!!!

Ya, I was going to say- we made 425 whp on a bone stock AWP with a set of our drop in rods and a 3071r, no mods to the head at all, and stock intake manifold.

I do think the 3076r is a better turbo though. I keep saying when the 3071r blows up, we'll swap it out- but it keeps not blowing up.

I think 440whp is possible when we change the intake manifold and possibly throw in a set of cams, but that's really about it for that turbo, wheras a 3076r would do 485-500whp.

500+ whp I would recommend going to a 20mm rod / piston setup, even if its just AEB pistons.

really 485 to 500 whp? I don't believe you. i would LOVE to hit 485 to the wheels. i have a gt3076 with an .82 ar housing, aeb head and 034 valve springs for a bit higher revs.

I don't believe either if this is on pump. Race with 30 psi+ maybe, maybe.

Are you talking FWD or AWD? Because you need to make that perfectly clear when posting anything about WHP, because 99% of the guys here are AWD which is going to put down 8-10% less whp then a FWD making the same CHP.

So your 425 whp on a FWD car is going to be closer to 376whp on a quattro car.

LOL, yes he did but he didn't say what it was in. There are plenty of guys here that are running VW transverse blocks in their A4's. So if he stated fwhp or awhp it would make it more clear for everyone to know.

From the looks of it both poopie and Bassed seemed to take his info like it was a quattro A4. I just think it would have been much clearer if he would just mention if it was fwhp or awhp.

WELL... I dont know of any bigger turbs than that.. I saw that in a DOHC VTECH Honda.... it went form going around 13 to a 10sec car with no NO2 Boost... gt3071r's are pritty beefy turbs....

    Re: Big Tuurbo Upgrade!!!

    go 3076...

I would think 480 awhp would be possible with every supporting mod @ 30 + psi. It has done 505 fwhp on a transverse setup @ probably 28-29 psi and all supporting mods - cams, etc.

I just read whp and didn't even pick up he had dropped the engine code in there till reading this.

They are not so big compared to what some of us here run there are a bunch of 3076+ size turbo's in some of the cars, including Mike's, Poopie's, mine and I think Don is at least a 3076 as well.

I was actually saying in general, so if someone was going to do all of those things they might as well go right for the GT3076r and skip the 71 all together. I would only suggest the 71r to someone that is only going to throw in rods.
