    Plasti-Dip or Black Paint?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've already painted my grills black, but no matter how much paint is on them, they always need to be touched up. I do ALOT of driving so I know this is the issue, but I know that I'm going to get tired of touching them up every week.
Does plasti-dip hold up better to rocks and wear and tear better?

    Re: Plasti-Dip or Black Paint?

Many people love the durability of plasti-dip, although good paint prep is key.

    Re: Plasti-Dip or Black Paint?

So what is considered "good paint prep" for Plasti-Dip? Is cleaning, sanding, and primering enough? Is there a certain grit of sandpaper that works best? I'm just about to paint my grills and I want to make sure it's durable.

Ryan does a pretty good job of going through the prep on here http://a4mods.com/ It's under the "Exterior and Cosmetic" DIYs.

    Re: Plasti-Dip or Black Paint?

I used Rustoleum flat black on my front grille trim and rear bumper strip (right under trunk lid). I didn't choose that paint for any other reason than I had some laying around from touching up the frame on the Jeep, but it has worked out nicely. It's been through multiple washes and some good hard scrubbing without needing any touchups. My driveway is right under a tree that likes to drip sap, and the goddamn squirrels drop shit and acorns on it (got one of the little bastards in the ass with a slingshot earlier today, he was dropping acorns on me while I was doing an oil change).

Please tell me they weighed the vehicle both before and after, I'd love to know how much weight that packed on.

Also on team plasti-dip, I painted my lower grille like three times and it kept peeling, painted it one last time with plasti-dip and it has held up for over a year even through last winter in Denver, not a single chip or flake it really is amazing stuff haha.

i believe you can do that with high grit sandpaper. there's a diy somewhere around here.

i'm gonna tackle it this weekend.

Correct. Just some fine grit sandpaper to take the shine off of the chrome. Instant "brushed" rings!

Here on AZ there is a forum just for DIY writeups, but instead you necro-bumped and linked to a spam site, post reported.

Not to mention that it's a weak writeup recommending methods that will yield mediocre ricer results at best. Go buy a Honderp and reinforce that stereotype.
