uhh car wont go into rev.1st 3rd or 5th

Wtf so all over sudden the car won't go into reverse, 1st, 3rd or 5th. Basically the top gears on the shifter. When you put the shifter to any of those gears it pops right back into the neutral position. Its almost as if it won't fully go into the gear so it pops back out. When I try to hold the shifter in any of those gears and release the clutch it just grinds almost as if you're trying to shift without properly clutching.

Also it looks as if the shifter , when in neutral looks a bit forward, this could be just my perception by that's what it looks lke.

Edit: seems I can get it into any of the gears if I first press down on the shifter (you know the springy buffer) and press forward into that hear

Could the shifter be out of alignment? Just a guess. Here is an article for installing a shifter, the bottom part of the page explains how to properly align the shifter. Not sure it will help, but it can't hurt to check it, right?

its probably a bushing/linkage. take it to a good shop or look at it yourself.

my car did this when my snub mount ripped in half. the motor tilted up out of the bracket, but thats because of the angle i was trying to put the car in gear.

I'm guessing poorly aligned shifter.
