    B7 S4 Exhaust & Chip

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Well,
despite my plans of getting a used RS4, I am looking at a really nice S4 from my long time mechanic. I was wondering what are some good, loud, exhaust upgrade options for the later b7s? Any suggestions?

Also, are there any chipping options for increased performance for the 4.2 V8? I don't know much about chipping, aside from what my mechanic has said, but I do know more people are chipping the 2.7t B6>'s, apparently it's easier? Is it worth chipping it?

    Thanks,

    Re: B7 S4 Exhaust & Chip

haha exhaust post. Do a search. There are tons of threads dedicated to each and every exhaust option available for our cars. The more common ones tend to be AWE, Milltek, Fast Intentions, LaBree, and various others.

You can chip our cars, but it doesn't do nearly as much for them as it does for the 2.7tt, or any forced induction car for that matter.

    Re: B7 S4 Exhaust & Chip

Hey, I searched around and this thread was right on topic for what I was wondering. Anybody know (or can you point me to info) exactly how much power a downpipe/catback exhaust along with a chip will make on the 4.2L S4? I'm thinking about doing this, but am not sure if it's worth it.

I've been told by one aftermarket company that the HP will be bumped from stock 340 up to approximately 390. Does that sound right?? If so I think the money spent is "worth it", but I wanted to verify if that statement is accurate....

    Thanks,
For info regarding downpipe/chipping, look at my answer below. When it comes to choosing an aftermarket exhaust, I would recommend Neupseed's 70mm catback. The sound is intoxicating and it is superior in quality. A perfect mix of loud w/o drone.

Unfortunately, there is no way that this info is accurate, nor would it be safe if it was true. The S4's 4.2L is running an incredibly high compression ratio from the dealer, and chipping it will only yield 4 to 5 hp and a slight bit more torque. Really, a chip just smooths our power delivery, eliminating the slight power deficient spots in the rev range.

Adding a downpipe+catback will yield around 15 to 20 hp.

That is unfortunate. So spend thousands of dollars and gain 20 at the crank?? Just seems really, really low for the money.

What is the compression ratio of the Audi 4.2L 8-cyl by the way?

4,163 cc 4.2 liters V 8 front engine with 84.5 mm bore, 92.8 mm stroke, 11 compression ratio, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and five valves per cylinder with 340 HP SAE @ 7,000 rpm; 302 ft lb , 409 Nm @ 3,500 rpm

Best advice...throw a cat back system on there and call it a day...milltek sport is what I have...sounds amazing and you can really hear the engine and feel a little more response in acceleration

If you want to get 390+ horse...be ready to dump some big money into it or...just start saving for an RS4!

As I posted on another thread - what about this? :

    http://www.powerchipgroup.com/produc...2008&make=Audi

gain claimed is higher than those above. APR downpipes/full system looks better than cat-back to me.

Stassis center diff is appealing too.
