Post Front Mount Information so JHM can develop it.

Since JHM has developed such an affordable and quality intercooler for the B5 S4, I asked if Jay could develop something for the B5 A4. It will involve less piping and a smaller core so the cost should be even lower. Post ideas, pipe sizes, core sizes so:

    - It can fit behind stock bumper and retain fogs and grills
    - It can clear the SAI pump w/ minor modification even
    - It can house the MAP sensor

You do know Jason just uses Ebay fmic's for the S4 right? He is also a ER dealer.

The whole idea of trying to do things in the über cheap needs to cease. Those who think Honda or Evo guys do it on the cheap just have no clue. My .02

You do know Jason himself developed the pipping right? To fit the grille with minor modifications.

I'll talk to him nebone22, but I highly doubt the stock fogs would still work.

Yes I do know that seeing that I know Jason personally, my car is listed on his site(the faster one of the 3) and I am a JHM dealer.

BTW those pipes are now sold on Ebay.

Problem is that anything that is going to actually sit behind the stock B5 A4 bumper is not going to be good for anthing larger then a T28. Racetech already sells a kit like this and goes for under $800.

Just making sure That's a good price for the Racetech, they are nice units.

And you've met me a few times at the track with Jay - German invasion, Test-n-tunes at Sac, etc. Use to have a black 1.8t.

I don't want to get a generic ebay piping kit since after all the cutting, half the pipes will have beads and half wont. Plus the fitment is never ideal.

Are you just looking for a cheap K03/K04 setup?

I want something that fits and functions and I don't have to hack it or have to fix blown off hoses. Most people still have a K03 and a chipped one at it so this is towards those consumers. I'd like it to work with a GT3076R.

yeah the problem your going to run into is that 1 pipe setup is not going to fit every GT3076r setup since the inlet is going to be in a different spot. This is when people end up doing their own or just going to a fab shop to have it done. Even I take customer cars to ER when they need a hot side pipe that fits to their custom turbo setup, just ask Jake or his Dad. If you plan on doing a top mount GT3076 or clock the turbo so that the outlet sits over the top of the frame you will not get any pipe to fit in there since everything ends up in the way.

Other problem is that you are not going to get a big enough fmic behind the stock bumper that can handle the GT3076r, you will need a S4, RS4 or aftermarket bumper for that. The ER Comp for the B5 does not fit behind the stock bumper. The A4 bumper just doesn't have any room for anything larger then 2.5" once you get below the bumper and end up behind the valence. If you stay above the valence you end up with very little of the fmic in direct air flow. These are all issues that I have had to deal with on my own car in the last 8 years.

I have a 3" core behind my front bumper, Its 12" tall I think, It took a whole bunch of fitting too..

Just saying that you can fit a bigger FM behind the front bumper.. It will just take some cutting :)

Yes but then most of it ends up outside of the bumper. I had a 3" FMIC with my stock bumper 4 ago and that was without an AC core in the way. Bad thing is that only 1/2 of the core is in direct air flow.

Its most likely 10-11" tall, 12" is too tall and you end up having to cut the top section of the bumper skin so that the fmic can stick up thru it.

half the pipes will have beads and half wont
finding someone with a tubing beader isnt hard.

i cut all mine and had a bead run on each. just don't cut in a bend, you can't roll a decent bead on a bend.

if you want cheap, DIY. if you don't want to DIY, quality products come at a price.

Then maybe its 9", I had to cut 1/2 the bumper support (2" by 2" notch, then filled the support with foam and taped over it to create a forced flow, like a shroud. I have almost all of it indirect airflow, and all of it is behind the bumper (Im not sure I understand what you mean by that point..)

Behind the actual bumper, only half of it is in the actual opening where direct air flow is at.

Have any pics, because a 3" core with the AC core is not going to fit so that the center grill can go back on.

BTW if you really want to increase air flow thru your FMIC just install a EFK, wire it to your AC fan and set it up so you can turn them on with switch from the driver seat.

    EFK?

So far I think my FMIC is actually doing pretty well, I cant add more than 22lbs of boost though or I get pinging/starts pulling timing (In on 91 octane in a 93 octane file..) I am going to try and push 24-25psi running water injection though...

Just do a custom end tanks and piping on a Garret, Precision or Spearco core. You're going to end up needing the charge pipe to be custom most likely as Mike said, so why not really do it right all the way through? It will make everything much easier in the long run.

I'm running the Precision 600hp core with stock bumper and A/C condenser. Less than 1cm isn't exposed to airflow (I did cut about half of the bumper and rebar away).

spend the money and do it right. I tried the cheap way.

My $.02 on the FMIC/IC subject. If you're rockin a K0x, pick up a good SMIC. BT/BAT get a FMIC. Clearances suck if you keep your a/c or stock bumper. I had a 28x7.5x2.5 behind mine, but 2/3 of the bumper support was removed. A/C lines still got in the way.

If you live in an area that actually gets snow, I'd stick with the SMIC or an upgraded one.
    picture speaks for itself.
