    Timing belt questions....x-post

Who exactly do you get the timing belt on?

Tooth for tooth is not exactly the same.. in other words the old belt was marked at the drivers, passengers side and crank. (two marks at each location). I made the same marks on the new belt... I can make the passenger side and the drivers side meet the same marks, however from the drivers side to the crank is soo tight I think it was 2 teeth off from hitting the mark but there is a ton of slack from crank to passenger side. ---Make sense... ?

Through all the tech articles no one mentions the marks on the timing belt..
so how exact do you get it on?
Oh btw I have the cam lock on and the crank has not moved at all...

Sweat and swearing is how I got mine on. I didn't look at the marks on the belt. I just made sure the cam lock was on and that the crank didn't move. Even then I had to loosen the cam lock oh so carefully to get it on.

you need slack on the side with the tensioner, that way it catches the slack and you can get the belt on properly.

x2. you need to put it around the crank first, then the driver side sprocket, then try and line it up on the passenger side. and when you are pulling the slace against the idler roller, there are lips on either side. make sure the smooth part of the belt is on the smooth part of the roller and not on the lip. otherwise you won't be able to pull it tight enough to get it on.

another tip that could help is put the belt all the way on the crank, but when you slide it on the driver side sproket, only slide it halfway on the teeth. this gives you a tad bit more slack to slide it on the pass sprocket, then push it all on at once.

You need to pop the cam sprockets loose... they will then rotate freely, and the belt will slip on relatively easily. Then, to properly tension the timing belt, load the hydraulic tensioner while the sprockets are loose. Then tighten things back up.

^2nd. You NEED to pop the cam sprockets. Then get the belt on the crank pulley, then the cam pulleys and the idler roller, and THEN loosen the tensioner and get the belt around that. Then tighten the tensioner and bolt the cam sprockets back up.

Honestly I did not have to take the cam sprockets off... I placed the tb right from the crank and worked it counter clockwise from there. It worked like a champ got it started and have no problems at all.
